    2. Julie Carr
    3. As you can tell I'm behind on reading the stuff from the list, but I too want to think everyone that has transcribed obituaries. Just the few I've done from my mother-in-law's family I know how time consuming it it.   Thanks Again, Julie (Allen) Carr   P.S I have the Eldon Newspaper from Part of Dec 2007 - until present if anyone needs me to look something up let me know and I will. I'm not for sure if I will continue to get them now that I live in Tennessee, but I will help as much as I can.   --- On Wed, 10/14/09, Mary E. Stigler <mestigler@sbcglobal.net> wrote: From: Mary E. The indexes for obituaries from the Maries and Osage County papers are on my Gasconade Valley Cousins web-site; the URL is in my signature block. I use a scanner, scan the clipping into Microsoft Imaging as text and then copy it to a Micro Soft Word document. There two things to consider; sometimes there can be quite a bit of cleanup but its still faster than straight transcription and then when I paste them into an e-mail I lose the word document formatting. I think the formatting would remain when pasting them into a Rootsweb message but haven't tried that, at least that I remember. An alternative would be to scan them as a ,pdf file. The reasons I don't do that is sometimes the newsprint is bad enough that I lose words or get a big black blob; also I print them, along with birth announcements, anniversary announcements, etc. and file them by publication date by year in 3 ring binders for the Maries and Osage County Historical Society research rooms.
