Obit., "In the Meta Herald, 10 Years Ago" - Thursday, November 22, 1962" "Ethel Mae Kern, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hunter, was born in Stockton, California, August 1907, and passed away in Tuscumbia November 13 (1962) at the age of 55 years. In 1950, she was united in marriage to Joseph Kern in Jefferson City. Funeral services were held Saturday, November 17 at the Scrivner-Stevinson Chapel in Meta. Interment was in the Southside Cemetery at Meta. Pallbearers were Teddy Bax, Junior Bax, Gary Doerhoff, Lambert Borgmeyer, Nathan Kalaf and Melvin Schulenberg."
Obit., mid-Missouri newspaper - 1923: " Died November 29th (1923) at the home of his son, William, Fritz Kormann, aged 78 years. Mr. Kormann was a long resident of the county; he was born in Gebro, Pommerania, Germany, married in St. Louis, Feb. 17, 1881 to Miss Elizabeth Beul. He leaves to mourn 3 sons, John, William and Edward Korman (sp?), 1 sister, 2 grandchildren and other relatives. The deceased was buried Dec. 1st, Rev. Reinhardt officiating. Mr. Korman was from the Fredericksburg area." ( I do not know what county he died in, ..(Mary)
Now that I studied this a bit further I'd have to say the naming is confusing, but it's either Kattenbrack or Kattenbrach. St. Lawrence Cemetery records show his tombstone has Kattenbrack. The St. Lawrence Centennial book shows it spelled Kattenbrach, and mentions he has a sister Miriam Fernandinam Kattenbrach who married Henry Lawrence Kesel. Her grandson is Jim Kesel, which would explain why Jim was a pall bearer. I also have Anna Katherine Kattenbrach who was married twice, once to Henry Joseph Beutel and then to Henry Meiburger. The Kloeppel & Beutel pall bearers I have as her descendents, so I suspect she was also a sister though I have no proof. Just to confuse things a bit more Rosa's tombstone says she died in 1958 rather than 1957. Maybe if I'd paid more attention in 1971 when I was a teenager in St. Elizabeth I would know some of this. I believe all Catholic Church records were kept in Latin probably until the Second Vatican Council in the 1960's. The change to local language happened before I was old enough to learn Latin, but I'm confident those strange spellings make perfect sense to those who know Latin, with a one to one translation. Hi Mitch, Speaking of morsels of information your mention of the Mary's Home Centennial book caught my attention. I missed getting a copy of it. Any idea if they are still available and who I would contact if so? What year was the centennial? Given that we have her death certificate online, what I meant to say was that I would like to have some verification of her date of BIRTH. The date shown on the death certificate, which I used for her Find A Grave memorial, was based solely on the say-so of her widow William McKenzie. William's son now wants to place a headstone in Elmwood Cemetery in Kansas City but would like to verify the birth and death dates first. So if any family member has something he could use, that would be most appreciated. And if there is nothing available in the private sector, then I will go to the county records in Tuscumbia to see if Erma's birth was recorded there. Mainly they were in Roane or Knox Co., Tenn and went into Morgan Co., Illinois area before coming to Missouri. A few did wander off. The story is that Jacob Shaw McComb signed on as a deckhand to come to America where his brother William already was. First day in port, William wanders down to the dock to see if he knew anyone on the freshly docked ship. Jacob Shaw was on deck on duty. Jacob jumped ship and the two brothers headed south to Spanish Florida away from English law.. They ended up in the Carolinas before going into Tenn.
