    1. Re: [MOMILLER] John Pinckney Miller
    2. Miller family says Wm Miller, and as Judge Jenkins saysyng born 1827 Miller Co, it was not formed untill 1837 and then it was formed from Cole, part of morgan, Camden and Pulaski Co. You even see people listed as born before 1837 in Miller, but this is not so. I run into this with my people in Maries, when they say born in Maries and the date is before 1855, you also find this in Osage where people are born before 1841 when Osage formed, but is actually Gasconade. 1. [MOMILLER] John Pinckney Miller
    2. Nancy & Jerry Thompson
    3. Gerard Schultz in his 1933 book, A History of Miller County, Missouri, says that Miller County "was named in honor of John Miller, the fourth governor of Missouri, who was born in Berkeley County, Virginia. During the War of 1812 he served as Lieutenant Colonel of the 17th United State Infantry and as Colonel of the 19th Infantry." Judge Jenkins, Vol. 1 states that William and Boyd Miller settled into the prairies on the North side of Miller County. Pinkney S. Miller was born March 23, 1827 at Spring Garden on the prairie. "William Miller was active in the formation of Miller County. He carried the petition of sundry inhabitants to the legislature which prayed the territory South of the Osage be taken from Pulaski County and the territory North of the Osage be taken from Cole County and therewith a new county formed, to be known as Miller. Many of the earlier inhabitants believe Miller County was named after William Miller because he was instrumental in the formation of the county." Pinkney Miller's obit says the county was named for him. Hmmm.wonder who is correct? Nancy T

    3. Death certificate for John Wesley Smith Jr. lists his birth date as 16 Oct. 1872 and his age at death as 47 yr. 2 mo. 6 da. Informant was Lon/Lou Smith. John Wesley Smith's marriage date is shown as 22 Sept 1865 and the rest of the dates don't fit, so obviously the information on the Death Cert. is incorrect...does happen.
