    1. [MOMILLER] Miller/Curty - Wedding Anniversary
    2. Nancy & Jerry Thompson
    3. Wedding Anniversary Celebration: The Eldon Advertiser, February 8, 1945 Mr. and Mrs. James P. Miller of Eugene, Missouri, celebrated their sixty-fifth wedding anniversary on February 9, 1945. They have resided in Eugene for the past 33 years. Each was born within five miles of their present home and they have spent their entire lives in this community. They have eight children, five sons and three daughers, all of whom are still living. James P. Miller was born in the Gageville neighborhood in Miller County on January 16, 1860. He is the son of Jacob and Susan Miller. He was made an orphan by the Civil War when he was but three years of age. After that he and his mother and one sister made their home with an uncle until he grew to young manhood. On February 5, 1880, he married Emma Curty, daughter of David and Mahale Curty who also lived in the Gageville neighborhood. They first "set up housekeeping", as it was then called, in the Pleasant community. After a move or two he bought a farm of 240 acres a mile south of Eugene. There they resided in a small log house in a valley near a spring until such a time that circumstances would permit them to build a frame home upon the hill. A well had to be drilled. Mr. and Mrs. Miller have always been regarded as a thrifty, enterprising couple. Here on this farm they reared eight children and remained until the youngest one was ten years of age. The children are Elsa, now Mrs. A.L. Stillwell of St. Louis, Mo.; Pearl, now Mrs. F.A. Neffler of Burbank, Calif.; Ruth, now Mrs. J.M. Crum of Leavenworth, Kans.; Richard, Etterville, Mo.; Claude, Eldorado, Kans.; James C. Columbia, Mo.; C.K., Eugene, Mo.; and T.A. of Burbank, Calif. Mr. and Mrs. Miller have an interesting and most unusual family record. A total of fifty-one children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren are now the direct descendents of Mr. and Mrs. Miller with only one death recorded. The oldest son of Richard Miller died when five years of age from diphtheria. With the single exception, all of the offspring from this union are alive. Mr. Miller has been a deacon or an elder in the Christian Church for more than sixty years. He has always had an interest in community affairs. He served for many years as a member of the board of directors of the school. "Uncle Jimmy" as he is affectionately called by all the people in the neighborhood, has for many years been a source of reference in his community on subjects ranging from the treatment of hog cholera to plans for the basket dinner at the church. In addition to being either an elder or a deacon for so many years in the Christian Church, he has served as a Sunday school teacher, song leader, superintendent of the Sunday school and a paying member of the finance board. Mrs. Miller has lived a very active life. In addition to the duties incident to rearing eight children, she found time to be a member of the Ladies Aid, the Sewing Club, the Parent Teachers group and any other organization that was for the community's well-being. She has been throughout her life, and still is, a faithful attendant at church services.
