    3. I absolutely agree with you about these unrecognized treasures. Throughout my childhood my family used to camp near the Boeckman bridge, sometimes for more than a week at a time. The water was clear. The fishing was great. My parents loved coming home to Miller County at every opportunity to reconnect. It was no surprise when the bridge was put on the National Register of Historic Places. However, it was a great surprise when the decision makers chose to tear it down. Unfortunately it all comes down to money. The area around this bridge is very hilly and the road takes a sharp bend at the approach to the bridge. It would not have been a simple matter to put a new bridge along side the old and traffic didn't warrant all the imminent domain of good farm land in order to create a new approach. When the bridge was torn down my sister and I went down and retrieved a board--our way of clinging to this warm memory of our childhood. Too bad. Hard to believe it's not worth bypassing it with a new bridge and leaving the swinging bridge for foot traffic for tourists. That is what I would do. Come to think of it, you guys better start doing that right now for those swinging bridges down from Wright Cemetery. Get the cars off of them now and you'll have something for the tourists. 3. Obituary: The Eye-Opener, Tuscumbia, Missouri, Thursday, January 1892 (This paper is badly faded and the date is given as January 41, an obvious typo) Tis with a sad heart and feeling of regret that we this week chronicle the death of Clarence E. Folsom, son of Mrs. John W. Fogleman, who was one of Tuscumbia's most promising young men, and whose sickness we mentioned last week. A week ago last Sunday, Clarence had a tooth pulled and went skating. His face began to sell and eyresipelas set in causing blood poison and his lungs also became affected by the cold he had taken and pneumonia set in. It seemed beyond medical skill to give him relief and at 9 p.m. on Monday he departed this life. Deceased was the only living child of T.A. and A.P. Folsom, having had three brothers or sisters to go before him. The funeral was preached at the Presbyterian Church by Rev. L.S. Garnett of Aurora Springs, on Wednesday at 2 p.m., who selected as his text the thirty-second verse of the twenty-fourth chapter of Matthew. From the church the remains were conveyed to the city cemetery for interment followed by a vast concourse of relatives and friends. The pall bearers were John W. Adcock, Edward Kallenbach, Willie Earp, Chas. Thompson, Wm. M. Cummings and A.B. Breen who were his most intimate friends in life.

    3. Fits in mine too. Back in the 60's Walter was tending a fire near the old blacksmith shop in St. Elizabeth on the block north east of the church, I suppose he owned the building. My recollection is there were some aerosol cans mixed in with the trash he was burning and one exploded and injured him. Seems like there was diabetes involved, but I was only a grade schooler at the time. Anyway he had to have a leg (maybe both?) amputated. His son Bob faithfully pushed him to church in the wheelchair for those many years, back before the church had a wheelchair ramp. Bob remains one of the community's most respected citizens, just down to earth good man with rock solid principles. 2. Nancy & Jerry Thompson
    3. News Article: The Miller County Autogram, Thursday, February 16, 1922 The body of Henry W. Francis, an aged veteran of the Civil War, was found near Aurora Springs about 9 o'clock Thursday evening by neighbors who had been to prayer meeting. He had been to Eldon that evening to do some trading and had a basket of groceries. His watch and some money was found in his pockets, and no marks were found on his body to indicate foul play. Pros. Atty. Donnelly, Sheriff Kinder and F.L. Thompson went up to make an investigation and they make a report that his death came about by natural causes. The body was yet warm when they arrived at the scene and he was lying on his back with his feet on the road track and his head in the ditch. Dr. G.D. Walker had been treating Mr. Francis for some time for leakage3 of the heart and this is probably the cause of his death. He was about 75 years of age, married and has two sons and one daughter surviving. He recently held a sale of his personal property in contemplation of moving to the state of California. For years he traveled over the county buying produce for an Eldon concern and will be remembered by a great many farmers.
