Unknown Publication, Jun 1922 Little Lois Marie Martin, aged 4 years, 8 months and 28 days, the youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. G.M. Martin, died at her home in Iberia, Saturday night, June 17, after a three weeks' illness of typhoid fever. Thus over a happy home the shadows of grief have been thrown by her departure. This baby life was so precious, so fraught with blessings to her parents, brothers and sisters that she seemed a flower of paradise permitted to bloom for a brief season by their side then recalled by the all-wise Father, leaving the earth road for them dark and lonely indeed. Death it seems is a hard master. It takes from us our brightest and best, but it cannot even mar memory. The memory of little Lois' babyhood life while with us will serve as a balm to our wounded hearts. Impressive funeral services were held from the Methodist Church Sunday afternoon, June 18, at 3 o'clock, conducted by Rev. W.S. Birge, pastor of the Baptist Church, in the presence of a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends. After the services at the church the little body was conveyed to the town cemetery and there laid to rest.
This child's death certificate lists his name as William Bryant Hamilton. Unknown Publication, June 1922 The Death Angel visited the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. Fielding Hamilton Monday, June 19, 1922, taking away their little baby, William Brice, age 11 months, and 27 days. Little Brice was sick 20 days before God took him to that beautiful home in heaven. He leaves father, mother, two brothers and one sister, grandparents and many other near relatives and friends to mourn his loss. But we know that our loss is his eternal gain. For the Lord giveth and he taketh away. We know he is sweetly resting in the arms of our blessed Savior and he shall suffer no more. Their darling baby was with them only a short time. He was budded on earth to bloom in heaven. All the power of many friends, father, mother and two physicians was done but God called him home. We know that little Brice cannot come back, but thank God we can meet him if we only put our trust in God. With sorrow we can miss his little blue eyes and sweet smiles in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Hamilton. He was laid to rest in the Capps Cemetery on the following day. So we hope and pray that we shall meet little Brice in that land of endless days where we shall dwell with him forever and ever. -by a cousin, Minnie Clark
The Iberia Sentinel, April 1924 Mrs. George Wilson (nee Mary Moss), died at her home near Sudheimer about seven miles east of Iberia, Monday afternoon following a brief illness. Mrs. Wilson, a few days prior to her death, pricked her hand with a pin fastened about her dress, causing an infection which rapidly developed into blood poison. In spite of everything that could be done by skilled physicians, death came as the only relief. She is survived by her husband and several children. Three of her sons, Boon, Victor and Bryan, are well known by many of the Sentinel readers. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at Union Church near Brays and were conducted by Rev. Chas. M. Sooter of the Christian (Newlight) Church of which the deceased was a devout member. Interment was made in the Union Cemetery.
The Iberia Sentinel, April 1924 George Cofer, age 80 years, a well-know citizen of the Alder Springs neighborhood, died last Sunday afternoon of apoplexy. The body was taken to Jamestown, Morgan County, the former home of the deceased, Monday by Clarence Casey of the Adams & Casey undertaking firm of this place, accompanied by John Cofer, son of the deceased. Interment was made in the family burying ground at Jamestown Tuesday. Mr. Cofer came to Miller County about fourteen years ago and for a number of years owned and resided on the farm now owned by Rev. Wm. Sooter. A few years ago he bought a farm near Alder Springs where he resided until his death. He is survived by a wife and two sons, John of Iberia and Joe of Jamestown, Mo.

The State Historical Society in Columbia has many old newspapers digitized. If you are unable to go there, they have an on-line request form. Check at http://www.shsofmissouri.org/cgi/store/0065.html We don't have obituaries at the Miller County Historical Society that go back to the dates you are looking for. Available online via Ancestry is 'Missouri Marriages before 1840' by Susan Ormesher. It lists a marriage on July 6th 1834 in Lafayette County between John M Thomas and Elizabeth Rutledge. Has any lister followed up this marriage? According to Peggy Smith Hake (in Windows to the Past), "Cornelius W. Thomas (called Uncle Neal) was born in Camden County, MO on April 5, 1843. He was a son of John and Elizabeth Thomas who lived in Camden County in the 1840s. John Thomas died prior to 1850 and Elizabeth then married Samuel Brooks." Could the Lafayette couple have gone to Camden County? Camden County was formed out of Pulaski on Jan 29 1843. The 1840 Census for Pulaski Co Mo lists a John Thomas age 30-40 with a wife also aged 30-40, and 3 sons under 5 and 1 son 5-10. This schedule neatly fits the known children of John Thomas & Elizabeth as enumerated in the 1850 Census; viz: Harvey b 1834; William b 1835; George b 1838; John b 1840. Will this hypothesis stick? Paddy
Soumd plausible to me. Just an FYI about my records. I have just minimal research on the Thomas line while I was fleshing out info on William Riley Keeth's line. So, I don't have many sources yet. For instance, I show ten year errors in birth dates of the boys outside of Cornelius W. (Uncle Neal) whose is correct. For a while I thought John Thomas had been married prior to Nancy C. Mace, and the wife must have died. So I need to do more research. If you have a good gedcom on his family any chance of firing it my way? I laughed at your handwriting story. That's what I needed to get past my inertia and enroll in my class.
