Unknown Publication, June 1943 Mrs. Mary Ann Curry, an aunt of Oscar and C.E. Abbott of near Tuscumbia, passed away at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Barton in Granite City, Ill., Saturday, June 19, at the age of 79 years, 3 months and 11 days. Mrs. Curry had been in ill health for some time. She had spent some time in the Oscar Abbott home this past winter and returned to the Barton home in Granite City two weeks before her death. She was born Mary Ann Piles, daughter of Carrol and Emily Piles, March 8 1864, at Mack's Creek, in Camden County. When still quite young she moved with her parents to Miller County, the family settling across the river from St. Elizabeth on what became known as the Piles farm. She grew to womanhood there. She was united in marriage to Flavy Curry on April 24, 1907, and they spent most of their married life at Capps, where Mr. Curry was in the mercantile business. Mr. Curry preceded her in death on July 7, 1934, and Mrs. Curry continued to make her home at Capps until recently. Mr. and Mrs. Curry had no children of their own, but took Mrs. James Barton, formerly Ahart, into their home when she was four years old and reared her as their own child. She was very hard of hearing in her last years, but enjoyed company very much and loved to visit with her loved ones and friends. She leaves one sister, Mrs. Firba Abbott, of Latham; three brothers, Jay Piles, Lincoln, Nebraska, Willis Piles, Jefferson City, and Port P. Piles of Plainview, Ill., as well as a host of other relatives and friends who mourn her passing.] Mrs. Curry's remains were brought back to Tuscumbia Tuesday morning, June 22 by the Parker Funeral Directors and funeral services were conducted at the Mt. Zion Church at 2 p.m. by Rev. C.W. Sooter. Song numbers were furnished by Mrs. R. W. Stillwell, Mrs. L.E. Kallenbach, Mrs. F.L. Thompson, Mrs. Marian Pickens and T.C. Wright of Tuscumbia. Interment was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.
Unknown Publication, June 1934 Flavious Alvin Curry, a well-known and respected citizen of the Capps community, died at his home in the village of Capps on Sunday, June 24th at 12:30 p.m. He had been in very poor health for several years, afflicted with kidney, bladder and other complications. In the afternoon on Thursday preceding his death Sunday, he fell off the porch three feet high and received some injuries. Of course his friends picked him up and carried him in and put him to bed. It was thought by his friends that he had a stroke that caused the fall from the porch. However, he rapidly grew worse until death closed the seam and ended his suffering. His wife was at the bedside as much as possible, doing all she could, other relatives assisting, doing what they could to relieve his suffering. The writer was informed by his wife that she be near and hold his hand in hers when he came to die. She said the request was carried out. F.A. Curry was the son of Michael and Mary Curry; was born in Mahaska County, Iowa, December 23rd 1855. His parents moved to Miller County when he was a small boy. In this county he lived all his life except about 20 years he spent in the west, returning from the west he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Piles, April 23, 1907. Rev. F.M. Stickney of Eldon performed the ceremony. He located at Capps, went into the mercantile business. This business he followed until a few months ago when he sold out his business to Lewis Jarrett. The weight of years and failing health was the cause of his retiring. About 20 years ago he was converted and united with the Humphreys Creek Christian Church. He was an efficient and loyal member and an ardent supporter of the church. He was a member of the Order of the Knights of Pythius, Seattle, Wash. During his business years in Capps gave him the opportunity of meeting and coming in contact with all the people of the community, which gave him a large circle of friends. He was a good citizen, honest, truthful, generous hearted, good and kind to everybody; a Christian gentleman who will be missed in the home, community and Church. (lengthy testimony omitted here). Funeral services were conducted at the Mt. Zion Church in the presence of a large congregation of sorrowing relatives and friends. Services opened with a song. After reading a number of scripture verses for opening sentences, the opening prayer was offered by Bro. Joseph Barnhart. The text was chosen from Job 19th chapter, 25th and 27 verses. A brief address was delivered. Pall bearers were Oliver Ramsey, James Barton, C.E. Abbott, Clyde Roark, Lewis Jarrett, Fielding Hamilton. By request will mention favorite song-"Jesus Lover of My Soul", "Nearer My God to Thee", "Savior More Than Life to Me", "There Will Be No Disappointments in Heaven", and "When the Evening Shadows Gather". Burial was in charge of the Adams & Casey funeral service of Iberia. The remains were laid to rest in Mt. Zion Cemetery --C.M. Sooter

Hi Nancy, Yes........I would like photos of the WRIGHT Cemetery---Please. I was in the cemetery 1999, have a few photos, curious what head stone is missing from the base you mentioned. The new fence, gate and Wright Sign is the result of accidental property disturbance. A local power company was cleaning brush there about 8 years ago. The power company promptly repaired the damage. I wish some of the Wright / Other family would get together - spruce it up again. I am sure the property owners would gladly allow it and welcome it. ANYONE WANTING TO CLEAN THIS PROPERTY--PLEASE CONTACT ME, I WILL HOOK THEM UP WITH THE OWNERS. Thank you ---- Penny - Portland, OR. I would love to see the photos Nancy..been a while since I've been back there. Seeking death record/burial information for Abraham Barnhart, son of Albert Pinkney Barnhart and Eliza Jane Cowan, born March, 1880, probably died sometime between 1930 and 1937. He married Esther Anderson in Vienna, Missouri, November 23, 1923 where they both gave addresses of Meta, Missouri on their marriage license. Esther was from the Van Cleve area, Abraham from SW of Argyle. We have been unable to find a death record and there is no listing in any of the published cemetery indexes in Maries or Osage Counties. Are there cemetery indexes available for Miller County? William L. Miller County Autogram Sentinel, November 2006 Ruby Laverne Hollandsworth, 74, of Linn Creek died Tuesday morning, Nov. 14, 2006, at Lake Regional Health System in Osage Beach. Some time back Jim K. Shelton asked for information or obits name Hollandsworth. I've lost the email so don't recall which Hollandsworth was in the inquiry but came across this than may or may not be helpful: Minor Children of William Hollandsworth were listed in guardianship records as Hobert (age 21 in May 1913), Arthur C. and Flora. At the 1920 Census for Richwoods, Miller Mo; head of house was George Karr 34; wife Delia 35; their 3 children; brother in law Melvin Keeth 40; father in law William J Clarke 70 widower. This relationship of William Clark as father in law to George Karr threw me at first. On Nov 3 1870 William J Clark married Sarah Dean in Miller County. She was a younger sister to Susan M Dean who on Feb 24 1873 married widower John J Keeth and gave birth to John Melvin Keeth on Feb 16 1880. Thus William Clark was an uncle by marriage to John Melvin Keeth, whose younger sister Cordelia R Keeth went on to marry George Karr on April 1st 1906. Perhaps the enumerator also struggled to work out the relationship between George Karr and William Clark. Paddy

At the 1930 Census both Earl and Clara were given the same ages; 2 years 5 months. Their surname was written (and indexed by Ancestry) as Spotwod. The family was living in one room, rented at $13 a month, at 2010 14th Street, St Louis City, Mo. Addie Spotswod was 27 and was 19 at her first marriage (i.e. about 1922); son Charles was 6; Betty was 4 years 10 months; Earl and Clara were both 2 years and 5 months. At the 1930 Census for Richwoods, Miller Co Mo; Everett W Wall 34 divorced, first married at 21 was working as a stock farm laborer for his father, and living with his parents, Peachy and Mary J Wall. At 1920 Census for Richwoods, Miller Co Mo; Everett Wall 24; wife Lucy 25; Jenette 4 y 6 mo; Louisa 3 y 2 mo. Everett was living next to his father Peachy Wall. At 1920 Census for Tavern, Pulaski Co Mo; Addie Prater 16 was working as a laborer for her parents Eastern & Roxey Prater. In 1910 Census for Tavern, Addie Prater was 7; her parents were Easton A and Roxie. On his WW1 Draft Registration card dated 1917, William Everett Wall 22, a self employed farmer, claimed exemption from the draft on the grounds that he had a wife and two children dependent on him. Just before he signed the form, he acknowledged that his claim was untrue. Trying to make sense of this retraction is difficult. From later census evidence, it would appear that he married Lucy when he was 21, i.e. about 1916, and that by 1917 his second daughter Louisa was either newly born or on her way. By 1930 Everett Wall was divorced from Lucy. Addie in 1930 was still a Spotswood with 4 kids but no husband on the scene. By 1938/1939 she was Addie Wall enrolling at Curry School her two youngest, Earl and Clara Mae, both born Oct 24 1927 (which agrees with their ages at 1930 census). So we now need a marriage date between 1930 and 1939 between Everett Wall and Addie Spotswood. Any offers? By 1930 Everett Wall was divorced from Lucy. Addie in 1930 was still a Spotswood with 4 kids but no husband on the scene. By 1938/1939 she was Addie Wall enrolling at Curry School her two youngest, Earl and Clara Mae, both born Oct 24 1927 (which agrees with their ages at 1930 census). So we now need a marriage date between 1930 and 1939 between Everett Wall and Addie Spotswood. Any offers?
