Those of you who have in the past used the GenConnect Boards at Rootsweb on the Mercer Co. website for Bios and Obits will be interested to know they no longer exist. All the GenConnect boards (wills, deeds, Bible records, queries, etc.) have been merged with Ancestry.com, specifically with the Message Boards of Ancestry's FamilyHistory.Com site. When you go to Rootsweb, the Queries GenConnect Boards for every county and surname take you directly to the new Message Boards. If you try to click to go to the Obituaries or Wills or the other separate Boards, you are taken to a generic index page forcing you to locate the county or surname. ALL those separate Boards were considered 'categories of messages' and all the messages were merged into a single message board along with all messages that had accumulated at FamilyHistory.Com. Below is the URL for the Mercer Co. board: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=localities.northam.usa.st ates.missouri.counties.mercer Regarding the ownership of messages posted on the boards, excerpting from Rootsweb's Acceptable Use Policy, "When you post messages to mailing lists, message boards, and other facilities at RootsWeb, those posts remain your property under copyright law." The same is true for those using the message boards at Ancestry.com. In short, if you posted it, you own it. I hope this clarifies the situation a little. Barbra Mercer County Coordinator
I must have done something wrong, maybe. I went through the " boards" to research a surname and reached a window that told me I had to be a subscriber of ancestry.com to retrive the surname info. Has anyone else had this problem? How do I access through rootsweb so that I can research surnames, and retrive rootsweb info., without joining ancestry? Nancy The main page is here: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=main&r=rw You do NOT need to join anything, or even log in, to run a search or read messages. And you don't have to join Ancestry to register/log in so that you can post. And once you HAVE registered, if you click the "Remember My Password" box, from then on all you need do is click on your name to log in. Quick as a flash. They are still moving some of the locality boards into their final logical positions, so occasionally the Find A Board won't work right. The early days were a bit rocky, but I've found everything working flawlessly lately. Valorie
