My Putnam line were against the war and moved from Ohio to Mercer Co., Missouri because it was neutral. My Henderson ancestors were given land in Mercer for serving in the war and moved from Illinois to claim it. In those days they did not have fertilizers. The land would get farmed out and would be unproductive. I don't think you can pick out any one reason why people moved and why some stayed. Jerry
