    3. The material I'm sending comes from this yard sale book. The first item is an obituary. "A Centenarian Gone. DIED.--At the residence of her son, J. c. Harper, two miles west of Princeton, Tuesday, July 19, 1892, MRS. SARAH HARPER, in the one hundred and third year of her life. "Deceased was born in Virginia, Sep. 27, 1789. Her parents were named Hurst, her father being a minister of the Missionary Baptist church. she was married to John Harper in 1807, she being seventeen years of age. She united with the Big Springs Baptist church in East Tennessee and was baptized by Eld. Wm. Jones. In 1843 she moved with her husband to Buchanan county where she united with the Bee Creek Baptist church where she remained until about 1848. She then came to Mercer county and went into the organization of the Princeton Baptist church where she remained until her death. four years after moving to Mercer county her husband was drowned in the Mississippi river near Cape Girardeau. "Mrs. Harper was the mother of thirteen children, eight of whom survive her. The oldest is Grandma Cook, 82 years of age, living in Princeton, and the youngest J. C. Harper, 57 years of age, at whose house she passed from this to the world just over the river. "The family were nearly all members of the Baptist Church. Her son, Thomas Harper, preached the first Baptist sermon ever delivered in Princeton. "Brandma Harper's eye-sight failed her sometime ago; but she retained her mental faculties clear to the last. What a panarama of events she could call to mind in the century of her life! "As oldes as the constitution of the United States! "For eighty-two years a member of the Baptist church! "Children and grandchildren to the fifth generation to the number of six or seven hundred! Grandma Harper would have been one hundred and three years old Sept. 27th next had she lived until that day. If there is anyolder person in the state we would be glad to learn the history of such a one. V. M. HARPER." (From the 1986 cemeter book by Joe Dale Linn, comes the following listings in one burial plot: "Sarah Harper Sept. 27, 1789 - July 19, 1892; Mary A. Harper Mar. 20, 1838 - Dec. 32, 1884." Buried in the Princeton Cemetery--JV) "--Iveson Craig, an old resident and highly respected citizen of Linley township, died at the family residence last Tuesday night after a long illness. (The obituary of a Cainsville resident was just ahead of this and on the same clipping and it was dated April 30, 1893.--JV) The deceased leaved a large family of grown up children and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn their loss, his wife having preceded him to the other shore some time ago. THE NEWS offers its sincere sympathy to all the relatives and friends." (I could find no listing in any cemetery for this man--JV) "DIED. Allen Davis, son of Mrs. Delilah Davis of Linley township, April 15, 1893 - aged 19 years 1month and 5 days after a long and tediousillness. Allen was a bright and promising young man, a loving brother and a dutiful son. He leaves a large circle of friends who mourn their loss, but their loss we trust is his gain, for though cut down in the prime of youth he fully realized that death was near, and felt at peach with God. when asked by his brother how he felt he answered, 'All if bright and gets brighter as I near the shore.' "The funer services were conducted by the writer, assisted by the Rev. G. T. Clark and W. C. Harper, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. W. H. HARPER." (In the Pleasant Hill Cemetery listings in Joe Dale Linn's cemetery book, are the following, all of whom appear to be brothers and sisters of Allen: "John, son of S. & D. Davis died June 23, 1872 aged 3 m 14 d; Guy |E., son of S. & D. Davis died June 26, 1884 aged 1 y 5 m 16 d; Eva G., dau of S. & D. Davis died Mar. 15, 1885 aged 20 y 8 m 6 d; Joe D., son of S. & D. Davis died May 5, 1888 aged 19 y 8 m 12 d; Allen, son of S. & D. Davis died Apr. 25, 1893 aged 19 y 1 m 5 d." The only other Davis in this cemetery if "Samuel Davis died Feb. 15, 1884 aged 49 y 3 m 13 d"--probably the father of all these children and husband of Delilah--JV)
