    3. Here are some more entries from the yard sale book. "MARRIED. (Penciled in is Aug. 27--JV) At the residence of Richard Cain in Mercer county Mo. Mr. Richard M. Clegg of Cainsville Harrison Co., Mo., to Miss Hester E. Cain of Mercer Co. Mo., in the presence of about 60 relatives and friends. after the ceremony united those two noble young people as one, all retired to the dining room where a grand supper had been provided by sister Cain and her daughters to which all did ample justice especially Bro. Swaringen and Wm. Cain. May the blessings of God attend those young people is the prayer of V. M. HARPER." (This must be in the 1890s as there is a child buried in the Mullins Cemetery northeast of Cainsville in Mercer Co. with this listing, as taken from the Mercer County cemetery book by Joe Dale Linn: "Luther A., son of R. M. & H. E. Clegg died Oct. 21 1898 aged 9 m 12 d." In the same book, but listed in the Oaklawn Cemetery are the following names: "Richard Clegg 1861 - 1956; Ellen Clegg 1865 - 1950."--JV) "MARRIED. SCOTT - CAIN. At the home of the bride's parents 3 miles north-east of Cainsville, Mo., on Thursday, Dec. 30, 1897, at 3 P. M., Mr. Calvin Scott, of Marion township, Harrison Co., to Miss Carrie Cain, of Harrison township, Mercer Co., by the undersigned. It has been our pleasure to know these parties all their lives and it affords me still greater pleasure to bear record to their uprightness of life. Exemplary in all their daily living, their example being worth of imitation by all their acquaintances, and ever striving to exert an influence for good. The bride is a member of the Zion Baptist church and the groom of the Blythedale church. "Miss Carrie has been among our very best teachers in Harrison and Mercer counties. she is now teaching a 7-month's term in the Scott district 1 mile south of Blythedale and is giving excellent satisfaction. Mr. Scott has been reared on a farm and is a wide-awake farmer giving special attention to the raising of fine stock and improved strains of poultry, in which he takes a pride. "We have every reason to believe that this union will prove a happy one, and anticipate for them many years of peace, prosperity, and usefulness in the cause of the Master. "It is hardly necessary for us to say that the wedding dinner was all that even an epicure could wish for, and to which all did ample justice. May God bless the home from which the bride goes as well as the new one she goes to, is my prayer. J. H.BURROWS." "MARRIAGE BELLS. On Saturday evening, Jan., 11, wife and self went to Bro. A. M. Norman's where we spent the night and on Sabbath morning we went to the home of Mr. Larason, where we joined in holy wedlock Bro. John F. Norman and sister Dora A. Larason. After which, accompanied by the bride and groom, we went to Bethel church to fill our regular appointment. We are glad to note the fact that this young couple are both devoted christians, and we believe the union will be sanctified to their mutual good." "MRS. SOPHRONA E. HUFF. DIED:--At her home 4 miles north east of Cainsville, Monday, Feb., 18, 1895 at 9 o'clock p.m. Mrs. Sophrona E. Huff aged 73 years and 9 months. "Death came to Aunt Sophrona after an illness of two weeks, during which time loving hands did all in their power to relieve her suffering and win, if possible a victory over disease; but the Master of Life said; 'It is enough, weary soul, come up higher.' "Aunt Sophrona was born in Buncombe county, North Carolina, on July 18 1821. With her parents she moved to Saline couny Mo., in 1826. She was married to Elijah Huff Nov., 22, 1840. With her husband she moved to Mercer county Mo., in 1845 where she remained until her death. She united with the Baptist church in 1842. Since that time--fifty-three years ago--she has lived a consistent christian life; in deavoring always to follow in the footsteps of the Master. "Her funeral was preached at her home from the first chapter of 1 Peter and the 24 and 25 verses by Rev. V. M. Harper after which all that remained of an earthly character of her, was laid away, by loving hands' in the Mullin's cemetery, but her true self still lives, transplanted to the Elysian bowers of heavenly beauty and fragrance, of which in life she loved to sing. "She leaves a loving companion, 3 children, 1 brother, 1 sister, 10 grandchildren and a number of other relatives and friends to mourn the loss but their loss is her gain. "It is no empty wish to say: May we all do as nobly and pass to our account as spotless and unfearing. May god's free spirit comfort the bereaved husband and children in this their great bereavement." (In the Mullins Cemetery listings in the Mercer County cemetery book by Joe Dale Linn, are the following: "Elijah Huff died June 12, 1901 aged 81 y 2 m 27 d; Sophronia Adaline, wife of E. Huff died Feb. 18, 1895 aged 73 y 7 m."--JV)
