Albert Harrison was to have been a Congressman from MO for 20 years. Harrisonville was to have been named for him (according to my notes). Is there anyone out there that can help me get information on this couple. My notes say they were married at Mt Sterling KY 1825 and that she died 1839. I don't have their dates/places of birth or death or if they had any children. Would appreciate any help I can get. State officials are anxious to find any descendants of the Holloway family who are bured in the cemetery. If the heirs can't be found, the state will have to get court permission to move the nine graves in the plot, in order to finish a new Missouri 150. Construction workers recently unearthed a marble headstone, dating from 1858, while moving a large section of water pipe. Archaeologists later found another headstone and evidence of seven other graves. The site has not been disturbed further. -------- Please pass this on to other lists. He is in the 1860 Census of Mercer County. Thanks for any help. >> David, According to some Lindsey family history, Colonel Preston Underwood's wife was killed by lightening, leaving six children (John, George, Jim, Jeff, and Mary Ann). Preston's second wife was Elizabeth Hensley Lindsey, widow of William Newton Lindsey who died in 1852, leaving five young children. Elizabeth and Preston Underwood had six children together (Cassandra, Taneson, Artiness, Julia, Columbus, and Lucretia). In the 1870 Census they were living in Morgan Twp., Mercer Co., MO. The family history writer says, "Colonel Underwood was a quite typical southern gentleman. If he ever did a day's work in the field it was before I can remember, and I never heard of it. He always had a nice bunch of hogs. They had land on both sides of the road that ran past the house and the barn and hog lot were across the road from the house. The nearest "Pap" as we called him, came to working was to go across the road to feed the hogs. He always saw to it that they had plenty of meat and shortening. His step sons, the Lindsey boys, always called him Colonel. He had been a Colonel in a military organization in KY. Father said he could remember seeing his uniform. But his own children and all the grandchildren called him "Pap", no doubt a contradiction of pappy, then a common term for father." "Colonel Underwood was a Republican and always took Republican newspapers. Five of the Lindsey and Underwood boys were in the Union Army of the Civil War. Leander B. and Robert L. Lindsey; John, George, and Jim Underwood. Jim lost an eye in battle." The family history (undocumented) notes that in later years Taneson, Julia, and Columbus Underwood in later years all lived in Harrison Co., MO (adjoining Mercer Co.) and are buried there. Preston Underwood also died in Harrison Co. He is buried in the Weaver Chapel Cemetery, near his son Columbus S. Underwood, wife, and two children. Preston's monument inscription is: "Preston Underwood, husb. of E. died June 20, 1893 86y 6m Hope this helps. -Judy

Mark Hanna Ormsby and Florence Eva Gloshen were the parents of Marcheta, Florence Ann and Mark. Mark Hanna Ormsby was the son of Christopher Wesley Ormsby and Rota Lima. "Chris" was a former mayor of Princeton and was a barber. The children of Chris and Rota were John W., Hazel, Christopher and Mark Hanna. Hazel was a wonderful pianist and played the music at the local theater in the days of silent movies. The parents of Christopher Wesley Ormsby were James B. Ormsby and Ann Hornocker. James B. was a Civil War veteran and he and Lucy Ann, as well as most, if not all of their children, are buried in the Princeton Cemetery. Christopher Wesley "Chris" Ormsby had a wonderful memory. He was born in Wayne County, Iowa, in 1866 and came with his parents in 1871 to Mercer County, MO. He remembered many of the pioneers of the county and could fascinate the listener with the stories about them. I knew Chris and his daughter, Hazel. I also knew the three children of Mark Hanna. His son, Mark, still lives here in Princeton and I have high regard for Mark. He started Marco's, a meat company here. It is a very attractive building and when I want meat for a special occasion, that's where I buy it. Jennie Vertrees backwood@grm.net
