Sorry, I didn't remember we all like the 'end of the story'....... Adda Jane b 1886 was the daughter of Gerrit S Robinson and and his wife Mary Aldonena ____________. Gerrit was the son of Marcus Lindsey Robinson and his wife Calista B Casteel. Adda Jane died July 5, 1898 in Springfield MO. The wife of my g grandfather, Felix W Casteel, was Adaliza Jane. Could be this little Adda Jane was her namesake. The families were closely related and good friends. This Robinson family migrated from Laurel Co KY, like all the other Casteels and their branches to early day Mercer Co MO. Leoneita
Hi Lawrence and Sandra: I noticed you both had Collins connections in Kentucky and Missouri, so I thought I should check to see if anyone recognizes my Isaac Milton Collins (1840-1929). Isaac usually went by the name Milton Collins. He was born in Livingston Co. in 1840 (part of which later became Grundy Co.), but according to his Civil War pension application his parents died while he was an infant. Presumably they died in the Livingston/Grundy Co. areas in the early 1840s. In later federal censuses Isaac's parents are listed as being born in Kentucky. Sometimes in the census only his mother's birthplace is listed (with a line drawn through the father's birthplace) and I wonder if maybe his mother was a Collins from Kentucky who never married, but I just have no idea. Your posts were the first mention I had seen of Collins deaths in the area from the 1840s, and since you both had Collinses back in Kentucky who came to Missouri around that time, I thought I should write. If anyone else on the list recognizes him, please contact me-- he is one of my 'brick walls'. After his parents died, Isaac was 'bound out' to Joseph Rooks, and he refers to Joseph as his grandfather. I have not been able to establish a biological relationship between Joseph Rooks and Isaac, and I don't think there was one. Isaac 'Milton' Collins married Mary Anna Kelly (1845-1926) in 1862, and joined the Union Army twice (medically discharged both times). They raised a large family, of which I have some pictures. If anyone can help please contact me, Robert Lawrence May wrote: > > Rhoda Collins, my grgreatgrandmother, was born the daughter of John > Collins in Christian Co., KY. I have information he died in Mercer County, MO.in 1846 or 1847. One of his grandchildren, Marion Wesley AKERS, was born in Mercer County in 1849. Is there a record that will prove the date and town/county of Bedy's death. I would hope it would give his birth and parent info also. > > > > ==== MOMERCER Mailing List ==== > > List mail archives can be accessed at: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ > > or at: > > http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl > > > ==== MOMERCER Mailing List ==== > List mail archives can be accessed at: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ > or at: > http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Shirley, The Snyders aren't my line. However, Nancy Jane, the oldest offspring of James and Matilda Snyder, was the second wife of my GGgrandfather, William McHargue. Do you have the names of the parents of James? William was about the same age as James and they grew up in the same general area of KY. I've often wondered if they grew up close to each other. Where are Sarah and George Washington Cox buried? I recently made copies of the family record sheets in the Wm. McHargue family Bible which includes a list of the James Snyder family. If you would like a copy, please email me directly. -Judy

Thank you, Chuck, for the response. I have identified Adda Jane. I am a Casteel searcher and didn't have her in my data base since she died young. Her grandmother was a Casteel. Oh yes, Casteels supplied the casket for my g grandfather, Felix W Casteel, also. They seem to be the main source for this service during a certain time period. Thanks again, Leoneita
Castel(sp) store may be better hint than you think. This was prominent store and family. Store was purchased I beleive from Deshler Furniture Co. (they supplied casket for my greatgrandfather). The store was located on the main square where a grocery store is now located according to local folks. Good Luck, Chuck Woods
