I must make a correction. Pineville, not Southwest City is the county seat. There were two competing communities to be the county seat from 1849-1857. Rutledge lost to Pineville because the legislature passed a statute that a county seat had to be within 5 miles of the geographical center of a county. I live in McDonald County so have access to local records.
