Mary Ann "Mollie" Gold Jackson was a first cousin of Sumner Maynards' wife, Mary Cavener Maynard. Hugh and Mollie had apparently eloped and were enroute to Indian Territory when they stopped at the Maynard's. Mary Cavener Maynard was a daughter of Wm. P. and Rachael Minerva (Gold) Cavener, born in 1855 in Christian County, MO. She married Sumner Maynard and they had 10 children; Cal, Claude, William, Milo, Bert, Laura, Carrie, Etta, Myrtle and Lou. I spoke with Cal Maynard's son Norman in 1998, but he didn't have much family history info. Sumner Maynard's father, Dr. Lyman Tyler Maynard, was the first physician in Newton County.
