That rumor has been around a while, but may have gained new life. It will probably be built closer to the state line to better serve the master - Wal-Mart. It will be a near final blow to the community. The grocery store is gone, the new school is miles away from the center of town. It follows that the last central social center of town will leave without any protest. Too bad. I wish the people of Pineville would show some spine like those in Southwest City to hold their community together. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] Sent: Saturday, August 04, 2007 12:02 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [MOMcDona] New post office? You are welcome. I have been pleasantly surprised at the lengths some people will go to in order to help find elusive ancestors. Just passing it on. If you find more trails to McDonald Co. contact me again. We have a great genealogy/history collection at the McDonald Co. Library www.mcdonaldcountylibrary.org if you haven't discovered it already. I found neither McKay or Walden in the 1860 tax list for McDonald Co., one of the few surviving documents of pre-Civil War times. McDonald Co. was created in 1849, so marriages before then would have been recorded in Crawford, Greene, Barry or Newton Counties. I also checked the 1833 Greene Co. tax list. Found two McKey's but no McKay. I think any pre-Civil War information will likely be found in the above mentioned counties, if they exist(documents, not the counties). This area was decimated by the war & very few records survived. Wondering if any of you might be willing to lookup a couple of things for me? I'm searching for the marriage record of William McKay and Lucinda Walden (maiden name Saulsberry or Salisbury), which took place sometime between 1830 and 1850. Lucinda Walden and first husband, Michael, were in Cole county in 1830........Lucinda was possibly in Miller Co in 1840 and was definately in McDonald County in 1850 listed as Lucinda McKay with her three Walden sons. Hello McDonald List, I live in Idaho and haven't been able to find a couple of things online which I desperately need. (Michael Walden died on the Gasconade River sometime after 1833 and before 1840). Lucinda Walden McKay was living in District #53 in McDonald County in 1850. The other information I need is the death and burial of William McKay, Lucinda's second husband. I'm not sure if he died in Cole, Miller or McDonald County, though I suspect it was Miller. I would be so grateful for any kind of help. Thank you sincerely, Joanne Evans Hodges Boise, Idaho [email protected]
How kind of you to write! Thank you! I'll have to follow up on some of the newspaper archives. At one time, Retha Mitchell at the Pineville Library researched it some for me, but of course it proved too evasive. Thanks for the tip. I appreciate it! ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, June 07, 2007 10:04 AM Subject: Re: [MOMcDona] Noel Information > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Author: WilliamHerron44 > Surnames: > Classification: queries > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.missouri.counties.mcdonald/1835.3/mb.ashx > > Message Board Post: > > Hi Carolyn; > > My gg-grandfather and family were located in Elk River township. The members of my family that died while in the area were either buried on their farm or in Butler Creek Cemetery which is located just across the state line with Arkansas. This cemetery is much closer to Elk River township than any in Mo. The newspaper that serves that area would be the "Pineville News" William Herron Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Naomi J Newman was born just over one year earlier than her cousin Ronnie Newman. He left the Akron OH area as a teenagers and she has never been able to find him since. I have tried to use the McDonald County newspaper site but when I click the link, I get a blank page for http://www.librarymail.org/ If anyone has access to the obituary for the death of Ronald L Newman on March 13, 2007 we would truly appreciate a copy of it.
