Jasmine: Yes, it does this is the last county in Missouri on the southwest corner and the county seat is Southwest city. Having a Ray county family in McDonald should not surprise as it was the last available land in Missouri(cheap) and it was a staging site for the Kansas Oklahoma and Texas land rushes. Midwest genealogical center has an entire shelf of Mc DONALD materials and there is a web site thru Rootsweb and genweb. I made a remark when my husband's great grand ancestors were found there on a 1860 census "why would anyone leave north east Missouri and go entirely cattycorner across the state to McDonald county. My seat mate a long time and astute genealogist said back' It was the last cheap land in Missouri. On a chance I went to the library and to the McDonald county Dewey number and low and behold a whole shelf and some interesting four hours of scanning and reading. Then at home found the computer sites. Great group!!! Does anyone know this city/town and if it still exists in McDonald Co . . . ??? My grand-parents lived at Rocky Comfort, so perhaps it is/was located near there . . . ??? I know there is a Richmond up to Ray Co, but the death certificate is very clear as it states McDonald Co. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I was unaware of the large family in and around Durant, but got in contact with a number of them a few years ago. All I knew to start with is that my grandfather's brother, George settled somewhere on the Blue River near Durant. Recently I discovered another brothers family and have been in touch with them. They gave me a lot of info and pictures. There are more and more of the family getting on line and making contact. It is where the Elk River (formerly called Cowskin) enters OK from MO. It is named for Tiff, a by product of mining. I don't know if there was ever an official Tiff City, OK, but borders were pretty fluid before OK became a state. DeKalb Co. is about 50 miles north of Kansas City, so about 250 miles from Tiff City. Quite a treck and lots of streams to cross. Not an easy trip, but there was a trail that went along the western border of MO that is now U.S 69. Also there was a RR line, the Kansas City Southern that served this area. I am not familiar with the Mallory family name, but I had relatives who lived in Tiff City named Epperson, MaGhee and Carnell Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Had heard from Jan here, but am not sure if she ever got my email. I would like to share information on Capps, Moore, Bullard, Clark, Sumner families. I descend from Squire Moore and his first wife Rebecca Capps, via their daughter Lucinda Jane Moore Sumner, b. abt. 1831 TN or MO, d. Nov. 1, 1919 in Portland, Oregon; buried Etna Cemetery, Polk County, OR. Her best friend and cousin was Margaret Melissa Moore (never married) who was a daughter of Alfred Moore and Mahulda Bullard. Lucinda Jane and Margaret Melissa are buried near each other in Etna Cemetery as per Esther Anderson Barker's work, and others'. I'm interested in who Mahulda Bullard's mother was, for one thing. Also, if anyone knows for sure where Lucinda Jane Moore was born - TN or MO? Many versions of that. Also many versions of what happened to Alfred Moore. Was he shot and killed by Newton Brock in about 1867-1869? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
