The home was built over a ten-year period, beginning in 1732. George Washington is know to have stayed there, because he mentions it in his book "My Journey Over the Mountian". The home served as a hospital during the Revolutionary War. It is the oldest continuously inhabited home in the Shenandoah Valley. It has been owned by the Stickley family for more than 200 years.
