Obit., mid-Missouri newspaper - 1971: " Vernon Albert Helton, 69, of Vienna, died Sunday, March 7, (1971) at a Jefferson City hospital. Mr. Helton was born June 14, 1901, in Maries County, the son of Gilbert and Jeanette Copeland Helton. He was married to Ethel Martin, who died in 1934. In December 1935, he married Dorothy Green, who survives. Also surviving are: seven sons, Robert Helton and Warren Helton, both of Vienna. Arlen Helton, Sullivan; Harold Helton, Ironton; and Wayne Helton of Columbia; Vernon Helton of the home; and Arthur Helton, Florissant; five daughters, Mrs. Louise Vemmer, Ferguson; Mrs. Lola Delashmit, Hazelwood; Mrs. Lorene O'Haver, St. Louis; Mrs. Leona Williams, Hendersville, Tenn.; and Mrs. Joyce Sallin, Columbia; three brothers, Richard Helton, Dixon; Mitchell Helton, Sullivan; and Leonard Helton, Washington; a sister Mrs. Martha Hogan, Phoenix, Ariz.; 36 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the First Baptist Church, Vienna, with the Rev. C. M. Howell and the Rev. C. L. Baldwin officiating. Burial was in the Vienna Cemetery."
