She was born in Meta on August 15, 1918, daughter of the late George Gilbert and Mary Roberta (Helton) Vaughan. On November 4, 1935, in Vienna, Viola married Emmett R. Pendleton, who preceded her in death on August 20, 1998. She worked for 28 years at the Dixon Shoe Factory and other shoe factories in Belle, Bland, and Owensville. Viola was a member of the Campground Christian Church near Meta. She is survived by several nieces, nephews, and her sister-in-law, Oma Vaughan of Jefferson City. She was also preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters, Wm. (Hood) Vaughan, Rainey Vaughan, Ray Vaughan, Johnny Vaughan, Willard Vaughan, Mina (Wells) McClary, LouElla (Barnhart) Sassler, Nettie Jurgens, Tillie Kinkead, Hazel Moeckli, Hester Wilson, and Leona (Roberts) Pippins. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. with services immediately following at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May, 28, 2009, at Fan! cher-Rekus Funeral Home in Meta. Rev. Manuel Seaton will officiate. Interment will be in Stokes Cemetery near Meta. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Campground Christian Church.
