Hardy, Ex-Legislator Rites Wednesday" " Funeral services for Mrs. Helen Coleman Hardy, Maries County Democratic Committee chairman and former Missouri legislator, were held Wednesday at Christian Church in Belle, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Hardy, president of the Belle State Bank, and widow of William Clyde Hardy, was killed Sunday, December 10th, 1972, in a head-on collision with a car going the wrong way on a road four miles from her home in Belle. The Missouri Highway Patrol said the driver of the other car, Austin D. Gray, 47 of Belle, was charged with driving while intoxicated and driving on the wrong side of the road. Mrs. Hardy was returning from a weekend with her daughter, Mrs. Gerald M. Hoxworht(sp?) and family in Columbia. In addition to Mrs. Hoxworth, wife of a Columbia physician, Mrs. Hardy is survived by another daughter, Mrs. M. S. Bowen of Tulsa; three sisters, a brother and eight grandchildren. Mrs. Hardy served three terms in the state House of Representatives, retiring in 1968."
