In Memory of Judge William Schwartze: (Vienna, Missouri newspaper, updated) - "The death (May 15, 1928) and funeral of Mr. Schwartze was briefly chronicled in last issue. Of his birth and career, we quote from the Capital News: "Judge Schwartze was one of the best known men in Osage County. He was born near the old Shipley ferry on the Osage River and after his marriage at Westphalia to Miss Annie Holterman 63 years ago, the couple located on a farm about five miles east of Koeltztown, now known as the old Schwartze homestead which was taken over by their son, Frank 22 years ago when Judge and Mrs. Schwartze retired from farm work and located at Koeltztown. Of the 9 children born to this union, six are still living. These together with the widow, who is 83 years old, survive the deceased: Hy Schwartze, Vienna; Ben F. Schwartze, president of the Star Chick hatchery at Westphalia; Frank Schwartze, Koeltztown; Mrs. J. H. Willibrand, Freeburg; Mrs. John Struempf, St. elizabeth; and Mrs. John Steinman, Argyle. Hy Schwartze was for many years blacksmith at Jefferson and Dunklin Streets, this city. Mr. Schwartze was appointed County Judge of the Second District in Osage County by Gov. Marmanduke along September 1886. Judge Schwartze filled out the unexpired term of the deceased Judge Radmacher. Later, he was repeatedly elected to the bench and served as Co. Judge in the years 1890 to 1896. Good judgement and safe business methods were the characteristics of deceased. His neighbors always found in him a good adviser. The fine attendance at his funeral - many from distant points - was a good testimonial of the esteem in which he was held. With his estimable consort he lived to acquire a real competency and see his offspring well situated in established homes. From early youth, Mr. Schwartze was afflicted with poor hearing and for many years a hay fever or asthma evil was added. After retirement from active farm life, the Schwartzes "nearer the Church." In the wind-up of his life deceased was a weekly communicant and his priviledge was to receive all the rites of the Church before entering eternity. At the solemn funeral service Friday, the Rev. pastor Keiley/Kelley (blurred letter) was assisted by Rev. Father Melies S. T. L., Rev. C. F. Schilling and J. Fugel."
