--------- Forwarded message ---------- NAME: Judy Germann EMAIL: wgermann@flinthills.com DATE: Feb 21 2001 QRYTEXT: I have received an addendum to this obituary from Merry Geisler Drewell asking me to add it to the original. Merry said: "The obit. states Miss Strain died at the home of her father, Merchant Strain, in Summerfield. I knew this was incorrect right away as "Merchant" Strain was my gr. grandfather and all his children lived to be old. I called my mother, Kathryn Geisler, and she called my gr.aunt, Mildred Strain, of Belle, who knew who Miss Strain was. She was Alma Strain, the daughter of Solomon Barney Strain, known as Barney, of St. Louis. Barney was Merchant Strain's uncle. Merchant Strain was Andrew Jackson Strain of Franklin Co. who owned Strain's Store and P.O. of Strain, MO (Franklin Co.). I can see why the mistake was made as Andrew and wife, Mary, had only bought the store and P.O. in Summerfield only the year before in 1922. Barney was unable to care for his dying daughter and my gr.grandmother (Mary) took her. Alma wasn't at Summerfield long, but threw up blood during the time she was. She was buried "6 miles north of Linn." This was Luystown. Barney's wife was a Childers, she was als! o the paternal aunt of Mary Childers Strain, Andrew's wife. The Childers are descendants of Andre Luys for whom Luystown is named.". ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO!
