Judy, Your posting of the Obit for Louis "Lou" Breuer struck a memory of my younger years. "Lou" taught Sunday School at the First Christian Church in Rolla. I would attend there once in awhile because one of my closest friends attended there. I would go to their summer camp, although I was, an still am, a Baptist. Lou would teach the class and then have a question & answer period at the end of the class. Some times he would forget where he was and would ask someone to "stand up and tell the jury" where Jesus was born or some other question pertaining to the lesson. I was his newspaper boy. His son "Bill" Breuer later bought the newspaper, I was working for. I worked for "Bill" several years. I then moved around for a few years until ended up working for the Post-Dispatch in St. Louis. About 17 years later, I was a union representative for the printers union and we had an arbitration case at Clayton Mo., the county seat for St. Louis County at the time. We go out for lunch and who should I meet walking down the street, but "Bill Breuer". He was working for the Nat'l Democratic Association. I thought to myself, "ole Lou" must be spinning in his grave like a top. "Lou" was a devout Republican. Posting these obits are a good idea, I think. Genealogy is, remembering the ones, who have gone on. DeVere
Devere, I agree completely. As I was typing Mr. Breuer's obit, I was struck by how many different people's lives must have been touched by this man. He jobs and affiliations gave him, I'm sure, a very wide circle of friends and the length of the obit in the Maries County paper for a man who never actually lived in Maries County speaks volumes. My grandmother's were both inveterate "clipping savers." I have clippings about joy, sadness, death, marriage and births for both families. When you read them, especially the obits, you get a feel for the person. It makes them somehow much more human than just a name and date in a genealogy database. I've got more to do, and will keep adding as I receive them or can find them.
