I'm a bit confused also on Hattie May Doyel (Doyle). She was first wife of my great grandfather, Joshua Sneed. Marriage record for Hattie and Joshua shows the following information: "Marriage License: Joshua Sneed of Maries Co, MO and Hattie May Doyel of Maries Co, MO and under 21 years of age; "B.P. and Martha Doyel, parents of said Hattie May Doyel have given their consent to said marriage" ...married at J.T. Davis' residence on 21 January 1897 by Peter Terry, Justice of the Peace" This license shows B.P and Martha Doyel as parents. My information regarding Hattie is limited. I know Joshua and Hattie were divorced in 1898. Could you provide further documents based on Wm. Doyel as being the father of Hattie. (Census records, marriage copies, etc.) Also was this the William Doyel that married Tabitha Francis Perkins 9 Dec 1883 in Maries Co, MO? If my information is correct, Tabitha died Jan 1935. I do not have date of death for William Doyel. my email is Blackw@Rollanet.org. Thank you. Thomas and his family settled in Cass County Mo. in the 1830s and remained in that area until about 1858 when the family moved to Miller County (Richwoods Township). His son, John Majors, married Polly Hinkle in Cass Co. and also moved to Miller Co.and apparently farmed with his father. John died on December 12, 1863. After the Civil War, Thomas and almost all male members of the family vanished leaving John's wife, now known as Delilah, and three daughters in Maries County. Delilah Majors married Jackson Riggs. Her daughters, Sarah and Tempe Majors were both married to Allen Woody (Tempe in 1884 and Sarah in 1888). The fate of a 3rd daughter, Polly Majors, is unknown. In 1882 Tempe Majors had a daughter by William Doyel, son of B. P. (Doc) Doyel, but I have not been able to locate a marriage record. Tempe's daughter was Hattie May Doyel who married Joshua Sneed in 1897 an! > d George Bartle in 1898. Hattie and George moved to Shannon County before 1900. B.P. There were two daughters born from this marriage. Hattie later married William (Blackie) Hauck and lived near Sullivan Mo.until her death in 1953. > > Any assistance with these very confusing families would be most welcome. > > Ken > > > ==== MOMARIES Mailing List ==== > > > > ============================== > Visit Ancestry.com for a FREE 14-Day Trial and enjoy access to the #1 > Source for Family History Online. Wanda -- I incorrectly remembered a statement identifying Hattie as B.P.'s granddaughter. Actually, B.P. Doyel didn't state his relationship when he gave permission for Hattie to marry George Bartle (marriage license in Phelps County dated June 2, 1898). His statement reads..."I, B. P. Doyel will say this that I have no objection of Hatty Sneed and George Bartle marrying that I am perfectly willing that she marry who she pleases." Signed by mark: B.P. Doyel and witnessed by Peter Terry. Hattie took B.P.'s statement to heart and married at least four times that I know of and I'm still counting. She had already married Joshua Sneed. I have information transcribed from a family bible probably in the 1920s that lists William Doyle as Hattie's father but no other information to support that statement. Tempe is clearly Hatties mother. I would be very surprised to learn that B.P. Doyel was her father since he is not mentioned anywhere in the family information. I think he was about 50 in 1882 when Hattie was born while Tempe was 23 and William was 25 at that time. This William Doyel would be the same person that married Tabitha Perkins in 1883. I also do not have a date of death for William Doyel and that information is not recorded in the family information -- either they didn't know his death date or he was still living at the time the information was transcribed or there may not have been any contact at that time. This bible is now lost so the original source is not available. Most of the information recorded relates to the Deatherage family of Shannon County and the Deatherages had no connection to the Majors or Doyels except through Hattie. Hattie would have been the only source of the information. So I think Hattie's grandfather was B.P. Doyel and her grandmother was Martha/Patsy Roberson. I have only 2 children listed for them - William and Louisa. B. P. Doyel seems not to be related to other Doyels in the area. (the Farmer Doyel family) Both Tempe and Sarah married Allen Woody. Tempe and Allen married in 1884. I have Tempe's death date as November 25, 1887 and Sarah married Allen in 1888. Tempe's mother, Delilah Majors married (haven't found a record yet) Jackson Riggs by 1880 and they were still living together in 1900. Jackson Riggs was once a farm hand in the neighborhood based on early census records. The Robersons, Sneeds and the Doyel family were apparently neighbors in the Hayden area.. The Bartles lived in the same general area before they moved to Shannon Co. (Warren Bartle was George Bartle's father) By 1900 Hattie was single again and living as a servant in the home of Jas. Hasty in Shannon County. She married Albert Deatherage in 1901. Her last husband was John Hauck (or Houck) who was also known as 'Blackie'. (I earlier had his name listed as William - wrong again.) Piecing this together has been a major nightmare (no pun intended) and I may be way off base somewhere along the way. I've had Hattie on the back burner for a long time out of frustration. Any help is appreciated.
