Funeral services for Mrs. Laura Ann Vandgrifft were conducted Sunday afternoon from the Belle Baptist Church with the pastor, the Rev Charles W Halbrook, officiating. Mrs. Vandergifft died at 8 o'clock, Thursday night, 28 February 1952 at the home of the son, Fred, north of Belle. She was 83 years, 8 months, and 21 days old. Death was attributed to complications of diseases common to old age. Mrs. Vandergrifft was born 7 June 1868 at Joplin. She attended school there where she grew into womanhood and later married Thomas Vandgrifft. Her companion died in March 1906. Eight children were born of the union with only the son, Thomas Fred Vandgrifft of Belle, surviving with 13 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one great great grandchild, a brother, and a sister. Two sons and five daughters preceded her in death. Mrs. Vandergrifft was a member of the Baptist Church for many years. Burial was made in the Liberty Cemetery with Sassmann Funeral Service in charge of arrangements.
