Forwarded by the ListAdmin for: "Cliff Metcalf" <cliffmet@qwest.net> Melinda A number of family trees and genealogy sites have Sarah Tippet as one of the wives of the Solomon Copeland who died in Maries Co., MO in1873, but unless Solomon was the original Superman, this is impossible. There is a marriage of Solomon Copeland to Sarah Tippet in Roane Co. TN on 15 July, 1819, and a marriage of Solomon Copeland to Jane Harrisson, on 15 Dec., 1823. The Solomon Copeland who later lived in Maries Co., MO then married Melinda Sample in 1829, and moved to Missouri between 1832 when one of his children was born in TN, and 1835, when one was born in MO. At that same time Solomon and Sarah (Tippet) Copeland were still living in TN, mostly in Henry county, where they had at least 10 children. This Solomon Copeland supposedly died in Izzard Co. Arkansas in 1845, and his widow, Sarah is listed in that county with six of her children in the 1850 census. Info on the Copeland Family Genweb site shows the Solomon Copeland who died in AR being the son of Stephen Copeland, while the Solomon who was in Maries Co. was the son of Solomon Copeland, SR., who was Stephen Copeland's brother. The first was born about 1795, the other in 1804. Both families lived in Jefferson Co., TN, and both were married in Roane, Co., TN, hence the confusion and assumption by some that they were both the same person. Solomon Copeland's children by his first wife who I believe was Jane Harrisson were James, Milly Jane, William, and an unidentified infant. In 1850, Milly Jane, age 23, is living in Massac Co., IL with a James Copeland & family. James is listed as age 25, and I would think this is her brother. Her first husband, James Hancock had died earlier that year and her first child Martha Hancock was less than a year old. Later she married Leander Doyle and lived in Maries Co., where the rest of her children were born before Leander also dies between 1858, when he purchased land, and 1860 when she is listed on the census as a widow with her children.
