There is a marriage record in Roane County Tennessee of a marriage of Solomon Copeland and Jane Harrisson, 15 Dec. 1823. I believe this Jane Harrison is Milly Jane's mother. Milly Jane married James Hancock, 14 Apr. 1849, in Massac Co., IL. James Hancock died in 1850, about the time their daughter, Martha Hancock was born. Milly Jane and Martha are on the 1850 Massac Co. census living with James and Lucy Copeland. Milly Jane is listed as age 23, born TN, and James is age 25, born TN. I am sure James is Milly Jane's brother, and their ages would fit the marriage to Jane Harrisson. Solomon did not marry Melinda Sample until 1829, so could not be Milly Jane's mother. I have no absolute proof that this Solomon Copeland that married Jane Harrisson is the same one who married Malinda Sample, but the probability is extremely high that it would be the same one.
