LILLY KALAF Lilly Mary Kalaf, 81, of Meta, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at St. Marys Health Center in Jefferson City. She was born in Kansas City on July 20, 1918, a daughter of Nage and Mary (Lehfdeny) Owen. On June 9, 1941, in Kansas City, she was married to Joseph Kalaf, who preceded her in death on Dec. 22, 1974. She was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Meta and sang in the church choir. She was a member of the St. Cecilia Ladies Sodality, Blue Army, and Meta Civic League. She was a volunteer with many charities and organizations. With her husband, she owned and operated Kalaf General Store in Meta. She worked for Saffee's in Jefferson City and was a sales associate with Jaegers Shoe and Apparel in Meta. Those who survive her include: three sons, Anthony Kalaf and Philip Kalaf, both of Jefferson City, and David Kalaf of Meta; five daughters, Helen Marie Jaegers, Eva Kalaf, Sara Jaegers and Emily Eggen, all of Jefferson City and JoAnn Farris of Kansas City; one sister, Evelyn Maroun of Kansas City; 20 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, Jan. 28, 2000 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Meta. Rev. John Schutty and Rev. Tim Tatro officiated. Interment was in St. Cecilia Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Mid-Missouri Hospice of Jefferson City, Jefferson City. Alzheimer's Support Group, or to a charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements were under the direction of Rekus Funeral Home in Meta.
