ROBERT HOLLIS Robert Ervin Hollis, 75, of Dixon, was born on May 11, 1924, near Dixon in Maries County, a son of Robert Edward and Sarah Ollie Creech Hollis and departed this life at 6:40 a.m., on Friday morning, May 5, 2000 at his residence. Mr. Hollis had been in failing health for some time. Mr. Hollis was united in marriage on Jan. 2, 1953, in St. Louis, to the former Miss Mary A. Dickens. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Chris Wagner of Feb 3, 1979; his father on Oct. 26, 1969, his mother on May 5, 1945; two brothers, Euell Hollis on Aug. 13, 1984 and an infant brother; and two sisters, Evelyn Rigsby and Gladys Richey. Mr. Hollis was baptized in 1956 and was a member of the Dixon Church of Christ. He was employed by the Department of the Army, Civil Service, as a carpenter for most of his working life. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Hollis include his loving and devoted wife, Mary A. Hollis, of the home near Dixon; one son and daughter-in-law, Dale A. and Pat Wagner of Springfield; one granddaughter, Julie Wagner of Springfield; two brothers, Warren Hollis of Crocker and Floyd Hollis of Fulton; three sisters, Sadie Rowden, Allie Hollis and Helen Hollis, all of Dixon, nephew, nieces, cousins and many other relatives and friends. A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Mr. Hollis will indeed by(sic) sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral services were conducted for Mr. Hollis at 11:00 a.m. on Monday morning, May 8, 2000, in the Dixon Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes with Bro. Jacky Smart and Bro. Charles Pitts officiating. "Beyond the Sunset, "It Is Well With My Soul", and "In The Garden" were sung by the Church of Christ singers. Interment was in the Dixon Cemetery under the direction of the Dixon Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. Active pallbearers were Wilford Alexander, Farris Dake, Louis Boucher, Jerry Vaill, Jesse Bilyeu and Jim Cardin. Honorary pallbearers were Bob Perkins, Lewis Miller and Don Johnson.
