I have researched the Viessmann iine about 30 years. John Wolfgang Viessmann is recorded as Lutheran in his marriage to Theresa Lauterbach at St. Joseph's Church, St.Louis, Missouri on April 30th 1850. I have a copy of the original record on mircrofilm. The record, written in latin, indicates that took catholic religious studies before the marriage. Cousin's I have talked to feel that John's father, George, his mother Cunnigunda Schuster and his brother's Christian and Frederick were Lutheran. The Lauterbach's were very strong Catholic.
