GERALDINE ATWELL Geraldine Steen Atwell, 60, of Dixon, was born on December 12, 1934, at Iberia, a daughter of Waldo A. and Eula Popplewell Steen, and departed this life at 6 p.m., on Tuesday, May 9, 1995 in the Manner Clinic, Tijuana, Mexico. Mrs. Atwell had been in failing health for the past two years. Mrs. Atwell was united in marriage on April 17, 1954, at Iberia, to Archie Barthol Atwell, and to this union five children were born. She was preceded in death by her father on April 6, 1995, and one brother, Roger Steen. Mrs. Atwell was a housewife and homemaker for all of her working life and was a member of Hephzibah Holiness Church, Dixon. Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Atwell include: Her husband, Rev. Archie B. Atwell, Dixon; one son, Rev. Archie A. Atwell, Dixon; four daughters, Janet Dale McIntire, Titusville, Pennsylvania, Diane Ruth Hunting, Fostoria, Ohio, Debra Renae Hatfield, Lancaster, Ohio, and Hannah Jo Atwell, Dixon; her mother, Mrs. Eula Steen, Eldon; two brothers, Waldo S. Steen, Mt. Laurel, New Jersey, and James F. Steen, Eldon; five sisters, Carol Elseman, Barnett, Janet Steen, San Antonio, Texas, Alice Tyler, College Park, Maryland, Marylin Whitaker, Iberia, and Eula May Bond, California, and eleven grandchildren. After resting in the Dixon Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes, funeral services were conducted for Mrs. Atwell at 10 a.m. on Monday morning, May 15, 1995, in the Hephzibah Camp Tabernacle, Dixon, with her son, Rev. Archie A. Atwell, officiating. Special words and readings were given by Rev. Eugene Henry, Wesley McIntire, and Hannah Atwell. Prelude selections were by Archie A. Atwell. August and Alice Schmidt sang "To Glorify Thee"' and Archie A. Atwell sang "Mother" which he had written especially for his mother during her illness. Tim Hatfield led the congregation in singing "Amazing Grace"; Wesley Hunting sang "Finally Home"; Mrs. Atwell's daughters sang "Joy Comes In the Morning," her son and sons-in-law sang "Then Came The Morning;" and for the closing of the service the Atwell family sang "Will the Circle Be Unbroken." Interment was in the Dixon Cemetery. Pallbearers for Mrs. Steen were Sherril Steen, Jim Steen, Rex Whitaker, Louis Elseman, Phillip Elseman, and Wyeth Bond. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Hephzibah Holiness Church and Camp, Dixon, with envelopes available at the Birmingham Martin Funeral Home, Dixon.
