Maries County (MO) Gazette, 16 Aug 1995 EDITH BEATTY Edith Beatty was born September 29, 1910 in Vichy and died Sunday, Aug. 13, 1995. She was the eldest daughter of Lawrence and Lula (Bunton) Smith. Edith was united in marriage to Ralph Beatty on April 9, 1944 at Oak Ridge, Tenn. and to this union one son Brent was born. Both Ralph and Brent preceded her in death. Edith had seven sisters and two brothers. Survivors include: Juanita Pottgen of Kirkwood, Anderson Smith of Vichy, Ethel Doggett of Maryland Heights, Gertrude Martin of Hermiston, Ore., Maxine Litzsinger of Manchester, Alvena Huston of Belle, James Smith of Ballwin, Lois Jean Hollinger of Tempe, Ariz. and Lavaughan Albertson of Lacoma. Both her parents preceded her in death. Edith spent her life helping others. She attended school and became a L.P.N. and worked in the hospital at Oak Ridge, Tenn. during World War II. She worked many years at Deaconess Hospital in St. Louis and on her lunch hour she could be found feeding patients across the street at the nursing home. Where ever there was a need she was there. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Edith was laid to rest in Hermiston, Ore., the home of her sister Gertrude, who cared for her the last years of her life.
