Surnames: JENNINGS MINZES NELSON WEST BLACKWELL BULLOCK BURTON FORTNER BAILEY Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/VKB.2ACE/1096 Message Board Post: Maries County (MO)Gazette, 16 Aug 1995 LULA JENNINGS Lula Agnes Jennings, 87 of Springfield, formerly of Dixon, was born on August 31, 1907 near Dixon, in Maries County, a daughter of Robert Lee and Mary Ellen Minzes Nelson, and departed this life at 6:30 p.m. Monday, August 7, 1995 in the Greenhaven Nursing Home, Springfield, after suffering a stroke five weeks ago. Mrs. Jennings was united in marriage on December 19, 1933, at Vienna to Frank J. Jennings, and to this union, three daughters were born. She was preceded in death by her husband on March 29, 1987, her father on August j9, 1027(sic); her mother on February 9, 1961; three brothers Elmer Nelson on January 29, 1982, Onslow Nelson on October 31, 1989, and Joe Nelson on February 14, 1981; one sister Elsie West on May 6, 1994; three half-brothers, Oliver M. Nelson on February 16, 1936, John P. Nelson on April 12, 1937, and Emmit Nelson on May 13, 1966; and two half-sisters, Mary Blackwell on March 30, 1954 and Florence Bullock on March 5, 1960. Mrs. Jennings was a member of the Kenner Church of God, Dixon. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior early in life and followed her Lord in Baptism. She was a member of the WPFA club and was a housewife and homemaker for all her working llife. Those left to mourn her passing include three daughters, Lola Mae Jennings and Wilma Burton, both of Springfield, and Loretta Fortner, Florissant; four grandchildren, Roger Burton, Douglas Burton, David Fortner and Davina Fortner, and one great-grandson, Micheal Fortner. Funeral services were conducted the following Friday in the Dixon Chapel of Birmingham Martin Funeral Homes with Rev. James. D. Bailey, pastor, High Point Church of God, Dixon, officiating. Three of her favorite hymns were sung for the service. Interment was in the Kenner Cemetery, near Dixon. Active pallbearers were Douglas Burton, Jack Burton, Bob Fortner, David Fortner, Joe Jennings and Lawrence Nelson, honorary pallbearer was Roger Burton. Memorials are suggest(sic) to the American Heart Association with envelopes available at the Dixon Office of the Birmingham Martin Funeral Home.
