Corey, 93, a resident of Palm Springs California for seven years, formerly of Dixon, was born October 10, 1901, at St. Louis, a daughter of Vasca and Gertrude Mae Houck, and departed this life on May 11, 1995, in Rancho Mirage, Calif. of a stroke, the body was cremated. Mrs. Corey was married to Hal Corey and Roy S. Forthingham. she was preceded in death by her husbands and her parents. She was educated at Knox College and the University of Illinois and taught High School at Dixon in the late 1920's. A true pioneer in public opinion research, she began her career in the early 30's in Chicago working with Geroge (sic?) Gallop and Elmo Roper. She joined Facts Consolidated as a partner in 1941, becoming president in 1960 and chairman of the board from 1976 to the present. Dorothy was a Los Angeles Times Woman of the Year in 1961 and received many other honors from her peers. Her professional memberships include AMA, ASA, and AAPOR. In private life she served on the Los Angeles County Epilepsy Board and was a chairman of the Family Service Auxiliary of the Assistance League of Los Angeles. Those left to mourn her passing include: two daughters, Rue Pine and Lynn Furr, both of the State of Calif.; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, special friend, Dr. Rex B. Gunn. Private Burial Services were conducted September 22, 1995, in the Dixon Cemetery under the direction of the Dixon Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Los Angeles County Epilepsy Society of the Living Desert in Palm Springs with envelopes available at the Dixon Office of the Birmingham Martin Funeral Homes.
