Lost some info due to pc crash. John Taylor, son-in-law (married to Leora Belle Fann, dau of George) Apparently was allowed assistance for taking care of George and his wife. 1904: The Home advisor: Thur, August 18, 1904, Vol 1, #41; County Court proceedings: August term: John Taylor allowed $20 for relief of GEO FANN AND WIFE. Will do some more checking....if anyone close to Vienna, perhaps they could check the newspapers for the above date (6 Jul 1903...or thereafter) Wanda, Rolla, MO. 3. Newman West is my Grandfather. My father was Richard William Alton West, & born in 1918. Are you sure the 1910 census isn't in fact the 1920 census? There is no Paul in the family. I believe that Paul west is probably, Richard...my dad.. & the wrong census year was copied. I have no idea why Newman used the last name of Light. He was either adopted/orphaned/mother married a light/or raised by his sister who married a light?? It has always been a mystery to me! I would love to know who Newmans parents are also. His death certificate says his father is...Fred. No mother listed! I have tried for over 20 years to solve this puzzle. Just not enough relatives alive to help me. Newman has 2 birth years...1868/1870.Thanks....Rita West Myers > From: [email protected]> To: [email protected]> Date: Wed, 3 Dec 2008 10:20:35 -0600> Subject: [MOMARIES] Newman West aka Newman Light> > If anyone knows the story of why Newman West used the name Light, I > would love to hear it. 3. The "Buck Elk" Cemetery is the Pilot Knob Cemetery at the Pilot Knob Baptist Church north of Summerfield as you go toward Linn. There are no Lights listed in the cemetery inventory published by the Osage County Historical Society, but then there are a lot of field stones with no names. Harold Green is in row 29 and Alva M., Minnie E., Terry Lee, Susan M. and John A. Green are all in row 30 of that cemetery. William L. 3. If anyone knows the story of why Newman West used the name Light, I would love to hear it. I have a vague knowledge of a connection between the Nelson, Light, and West families. I know how the Nelson and Light connection works, but I need to study more on the West connection. I seem to recall them taking in an orphaned West, but I wasn't thinking it was Newman. Thanks for any help. Melinda On Dec 3, 2008, at 10:10 AM, M.K. Elmore wrote: > Wanda-- > I show her death in 1903, buried at Green Cemetery. Author: myravg Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.missouri.counties.maries/1488.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: All I have is family legend that Abraham Vanderpool married two Vineyard sisters -- Nancy and Elizabeth. I have not been abe to find additional information. Their purported father, William Vineyard, died in 1849 in Missouri. In 1850 their purported mother, Rebecca Anastasia "Stacy" Cowan is found in Jackson Township of Osage County with four children: Jackson, 13, George, 11, Miriam 10 and David 7. Nancy and Elizabeth are not in the household. However, Nancy Vineyard is listed in the household of nearby neighbor, George MARTIN (listed as age 17 and born in MO). There were connections among the COWAN, MARTIN and VINEYARD families, though I have not untangled them all. I don't know where Elizabeth Vineyard was in 1850 census. In 1860 she is with her sister, Nancy, and Abraham Vanderpool. In 1840 census of Greene County, MO near David DOWAN and George MARTIN is the family of William VINEYARD (Vinegard) with 2 males under 5, 2 females under 5, 1 female 5-10 and a male and female 30-40. Since William VINEYARD supposedly died in 1849 in Missouri (not sure which county), I hope to locate probate record for him, which will hopefully provide the names of his children. I have been able to place Elizabeth Vineyard in any other family, but have no other proof that she is the sister of Nancy. --Myra Vanderpool Gormley Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
