My gr-gr-gr grandmother was Martha Dill and I believe she was Sophia Dill Nelson's sister. Martha had two children with Simpson, Roena and Josephine. Roena, Granny Roe, to my mother, was my mother's great grandmother and she remembers her very well. I was curious how Louisa's life turned out. She would have been half sister/first cousin to Martha's children. My email is [email protected] Feel free to contact me - we can talk. Author: Marcia36 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.missouri.counties.maries/2318.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Since I receive all Maries County messages, I was particularly surprised to see comments about Louisa Nelson Simpson. Is it possible to know what the original questions about her were and the reason for the inquiry? You see, she is my great grandmother and I know quite a bit about her. To my knowledge I am the only one who has ever inquired about her in the last eight or so years. My original inquiry was to substaniate a family story about her being born illegimate. She was very ashamed of her status, and at the last when she was dying she quietly confided her situation to my grandmother Effie McCarty and told her never to tell anyone. My great aunts, Lillie Mae and Annie, my mother and her two sisters, never knew about it. My grandmother kept her word. Several months before Effie died she also whispered to me and said since I was the oldest granddaughter, that I should know the family skeletons, as her sisters and her daughters would never have been able to handle it. And so, when all the above passed on, I began to research the story and try to validate its truth. There were many Maries Couny researchers who gave me alot of family information about the Simpsons , their life in Maries Co, the Simpson and Miller trek to Texas in the early 1880's..I believe that they must have arrived in the winter of 1880, because that is when Louisa married Joseph.... They were not married in MO.They were married in Rule and married by Samuel Miller Joseph's father who was a minister ,in his home. Joseph and Louisa settled on a farm in Commanche County, Texas not Brown. .She had three children who all died in infancy before she gave birth to Effie. When Louisa became ill in early 1907 with uterine cancer, my grandmother brought her home to live with her on their ranch in Rule, Haskell Co to care for her , and Effie also raised her little sister Lillie Mae who was about 11 at the time. When Louisa died, Annie was married to Joe Byrd Billingsley and lived in Haskell, Texas. I can't find the exact date when Joseph and Louisa moved from Commanche, but I know that they were in Rule in 1902 when my grandmother married Will McCarty. Effie and Will were married in the back of a wagon after church and I believe that it may have been her grandfather Samuel presiding.from the way she described the wedding ceremony. Will needed to get home in time to feed the farm animals..! Ha!. All I know is that Effie and her sisters were very angry with Joseph and fell out with him soon after she died as he quickly took up with a widow woman who had children by the last name of Rose. He died a few years later. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Here is info that I have collected in my database: Tempe Berggren, researcher -- 1860 Maries Co., Missouri Federal Census, Dry Creek Twp., Bloomgarden P.O., dwelling #404, family #399; Simpson, William, WM, $5000/$1300, age 51 or 57?, farming; Elizabeth, wife, WF, age 47, TN; Barnet, WM, age 24, MO, farmer; MARY, WF, age 22, MO; Lavinia, WF, age 20, MO; Caroline, WF, age 18, MO; Mahala, WF, age 10, MO; Benjamin, WM, age 11, MO; James Nelson, WM, age 13, MO (son of Ira and Sophia Dill Nelson). ------- 1870 U.S. Census - Dry Creek Twp., Maries County, Missouri, p. 392a - 4/47 Elizabeth Simpson, age 55, FW, farm widow, $3000/$350, Indiana?; Elizabeth, 27, FW, MO; Louisa Nelson, age 14, FW, MO: Mary Lee, age 16, FW, MO. ------- 1870 Census, Maries Co., Dry Creek, MO #47 - per Judy Germann Simpson, Elizabeth, age 53, f/w, Farmer & Widow, $3000/$850, born TN Simpson, Elizabeth, age 27, f/w, born MO (Elizabeth Caroline) Nelson, Louisa, age 11, f/w, born MO (Dau of Sophia Dill Nelson & Wm. Simpson) Lee, Mary, age 16, f/w, born MO (Is she a relative?)     Mary Lee is the daughter of Mary (Polly) Simpson and Louis/Lewis Lee.  I have her birth date as 1854, and believe she married an Abraham Crawford.     Mary (Polly) was the daughter of William and Elizabeth Simpson. Louis and Mary Lee and family were among those who moved to Texas. ------- It shows that Louisa married Joseph Dow Miller on April 19, 1883 in TX or MO.  Three children are listed as Effie, Annie, and Lillie Mae.  Louisa died Dec. 4, 1907 in Rule, Haskell Co., TX. ------- At one time there was a website with a large amount of Simpson data available for research. Hope this helps. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: ljames621 Surnames: Simpson, Nelson, Dill Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.missouri.counties.maries/2318/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Louisa Nelson was born in 1860 in Maries County, MO. Her parents were Sophia Dill Nelson and William Simpson. William was already married at the time and had grown children with some younger kids still living at home. His wife was Elizabeth Archer Simpson. William also had two daughters with Sophia's younger sister, Martha. These three children are named and provided for in William's will. William died 1868 approx - and sometime soon after 1880, his wife, Elizabeth Simpson, went to Texas with some of her children, Moses, Barnett, Samuel and their families. Even though Louisa was not Elizabeth's child, she took her in and raised her from the time the child's mother, Sophia died. Louisa went to Texas also, from my understanding. I have no idea when Elizabeth Archer Simpson died or where she is buried and I have no idea what happened to Louisa? Did she marry and have children? Thanks! I have some stories about my GGgrandfather "Old Man Denny" Henry W. Denny listed in some census records as Dennie. I have some stories posted on my ancestry site and will also be in Vienna in less than 2 weeks. I am interested in any info you can dig up on Henry and I will also love to share the stories we have on Him. He lived in Miller township of Phelps just across the county line and is burried in Clifty Loose Cemetary in Maries Co. without a stone. We are planning on adding a memorial stone during our visit.
