Hi I have an Abr. Vanderpool and a J. V. Vanderpool in the Maries Co. 1860 Census. If you would like more information, please let me know. There is also a Rebecca Vineyard listed in the same census. Her maiden name was Vanderpool. Albert had a brother named Andrew (Andy). The Vineyard family was somehow linked in, too. I know nothing more about them than what I've said here. I did find in the marriage records posted here that Albert and Mary were married 15 Feb 1891 at Abe Vanderpool's residence. I am assuming that Abe Vanderpool was Mary's father. Cindy and others with old pics, I don't know about you, but I own all the Maries County Books with old family pics. And I'm ready for another! You might send the Historical So. at the Old Jailhouse some copies to encourge them for another volume. AND A SPECIAL "MEG GENTGES" section in it,Ah? I love listening to old stories about the old days in Vienna, and how they lived. Whoever, When I was growing up in Rolla, they used to have a Western Movie on every Saturday at the Rollamo Theatre. There were Whip Wilson, Lash Larue, Johnny Mack Brown, The Durango Kid and of course, Roy Rodgers, Gene Autry, Hopalong Cassidy, Randolph Scott and the Lone Ranger. Then inflation hit, Pepsi went up to 6 cents and you only got 10 ounces instead of 12. This cost me one Tootsie Roll. HELP!!!! I decided that I would start to organize my papers again today. (Haven't I done this before?) While I'm organizing. I'm finding bits and pieces of clues all over the place that I just haven't put together to make sense and follow up on. Duh!!! One of them is Miss Cinderella. I remembered seeing that name somewhere. Well I found her. John York and Cinder(r)ella Allen were my Great Grandmother Lillie Margaret (York) Line's parents. Lillie was born 17 Mar 1866 Phelps Co (Rolla). Too bad that's all I have! But it's a start! Anybody out there have anything else? As for my Prewetts and Seases, I found some notes from my mom. Bits and pieces. Martha L. Prewett had a whole sister they called Babe, maybe a Mary. Babe had a daughter named Glenny. Martha L. also had a couple of half sisters: Sylvia (whose son was Whip Wilson, some early western movie star) and Dell, who married a Pete Leiseman (sp?), who had a son named Earl (his wife's name was Pearl.) There was also a half-brother named Frank Prewett (married to Stella) who lived in Granite City, IL. So Martha's father had two marriages. Am not sure about her mother, because I don't know what the girls's surnames were. Mom has forgotten so much (still does well for 87 though), but one of her old notes says her Grandma (Prewett) Sease was married twice. ???? According to one of mom's old notes, Gr. Grandpa Sease (August) ran a liquor store in Maries Co, and also Rolla. (Liquor licensees? or does this predate that?) Gr. Grandma Sease (Martha L. Prewett) had first cousins named George and Mam(e). Also according to mom's notes, August had a brother named CharlieSease who ran a drug store in Dixon. Then it gets really confusing! There is a note that there were 14 half brothers and sisters. Am not sure if she's talking about Prewett side or Sease side. She shows a Lena McCaw Strobach who was the daughter of Uncle Charlie Sease, and a Charles Strobach, son of Charles, and something about a drug store at St. James. (Which county is that now?!?!) So did he (Charles) have step children?? And wait! There's more! Her note says 'John Sease, married once before, girl from Safe, MO, Faye.' immediately followed by 'Effie Biles died of TB. Liv 1 yr.' Now, which John Sease? John, August's father, or John, August's son, or who? John the son did marry a Fay, according to cousin's WFT file. But who was the first wife? and who was from Safe, MO and just who is Effie? AARRGGHH! I'm so confused! Dare you to figure this out! Any and all help accepted! Marty bwalter@theramp.net
According to the book "Missouri Burds" by Maurice Burd, Simeon Woody married Mary A. Stokes. She was born August 28, 1880 to John Stokes and Amelia Pendleton and died 19 Feb 1968. He was born 1878 to Daniel Burd and Martha Jane Woody. In the Maries County Cemetery Book, Simon G. Woody (Apr 7, 1878 - Jan 10, 1923) is buried in the Pendleton Cemetery beside Mary A. Copeland (Aug 28, 1880 - Feb 19, 1968) Jim Stokes, a "Stokes Cousin" of mine, says he copied her death date from a family bible that his Aunt Alma Stokes Waugh has. Apparently she married a Copeland after Simeon Woody died in 1923. Who was the Mr. Copeland she married, when were they married, and were there any children from her marriage to Simeon Woody? Thanks for the help. Bob Prater, Tulsa, Oklahoma
