I grew up in Dry Creek Township and still own the farms there. My good friend Quentin Davis, who also grew up there looks after the place for me. He is very much in tune with history of the area and is related to both the Bell and Prewitt families who were listed on census records someone posted as living on either side of your ancestors. He now lives in Dixon, Pulalski County, Mo. and runs a towing service, among other things and may be one of your best sources for information as to where your ancestors actually lived. His e-mail address is Quentin Davis . His home phone is 573-759-7252. I currently live in Minnesota so can't provide anymore help from here and don't know where the "old home places" of Dry Creen were located as well as Quentin does. Regards, Lonnie J. Blackwell

Posted on: Maries Co MO Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Mo/Maries/10739 Surname: Fenton, Carter, Johnson, Blackwell ------------------------- Is this Thomas Fenton (born ca 1840) son of Samuel & Elizabeth Fenton? Samuel and Elizabeth & Family on 1850 Census, Crawford Co, MO House #123 and on 1860 Census, Dry Creek Twp, Maries Co, MO. Thomas Fenton & Sarah Elizabeth Carter (1848-1922) lived in Pulaski and Maries Co. Sarah Elizabeth's parents were Thomas C. Carter and Sarah Johnson. Thomas Fenton and Sarah E. had the following children: John (1868), Wm. Henry (1871), Bert (1875), Thomas Sylvester (1879-1927), Charles Edward (1883-1966) and Cora Mae (1885-1971). Cora Mae married George Thomas Blackwell from Hayden, MO. Sarah Elizabeth and Thomas Fenton were divorced sometime after Cora was born. Thomas may have been married at least 3 times. He was found on 1900 Census, Pulaski Co with wife, Maggie. My grandmother, Cora Blackwell said she had a half-sister, Mae, whom she did not know about for years. Sarah E. Carter Fenton later married James N. Williams from Hayden, Maries Co, MO. Any info on this family would be appreciated.
I didnt realize there was Maries County cemetery books - would anyone know if there is one Zachariah German and wife Polly (Snodgrass) German listed? Thank you for any information on this couple of their son, Alonzo. > >Your Great-Great-Grandfather William Davidson Barnhart (10-13-1824 to >1-3-1894) and his wife Marilla Catherine Babb (10-11-1825 to 5-8-1902) are >buried in Stokes Cemetery. Hi Jewell, Your Great-Great-Grandfather William Davidson Barnhart (10-13-1824 to 1-3-1894) and his wife Marilla Catherine Babb (10-11-1825 to 5-8-1902) are buried in Stokes Cemetery. These birth and death dates are taken from headstone markings or (if I couldn't read them) from the Maries County, MO Cemetery Book. Their daughter Martha Barnhart Stokes (my Great-grandmother 8-2-1847 to 1-8-1891) is buried there. William Davidson Barnhart and Marilla Babb's son Caleb M. Barnhart (11-18-1851 to 9-6-1937) and his wife Celia Clementine Stokes (3-26-1851 to 4-19-1928) are buried beside his parents William and Marilla Barnhart and near her parents Edward S. and Nancy Stokes. William and Marilla's daughter Sarah Francis Barnhart (3-26-1859 to 3-24-1937) and her husband Isaac Burnham (2-18-1847 to 5-20-1927) are buried her parents. I have had no luck finding the burial place for your (and my) Sarah Sally Seaton. She married Caleb Babb Aug 3, 1819 in Greene Co., TN. They moved to Missouri sometime around 1841-43 and lived and died in Osage County near the location of the present town of Babbtown. According to family stories he died Aug 8, 1871. She died December 29, 1871. Also, according to family stories, they are buried over near Babbtown at the same cemetery where William Davidson Barnhart's parents Abraham Barnhart and Mary Ann White are buried. That cemetery is a very old cemetery north of Babbtown about a mile or so on the old Shannon farm. The property owner does not live on the land. There's a caretaker for the farm where the old cemetery is located. At one time it was the Burd (or Bird) Cemetery. It now goes by the name Groene Cemetery and it's grown up in trees and is part of the cattle operations on the land now. I visited the cemetery two years ago in the fall and most of the old stones are sandstone. I found a headstone with "A. Barnhart" but no dates on it. I did not find a headstone with the name Babb. Nearly all of the stones are smooth or are weathered so badly they appear smooth. Bob Prater, Tulsa, OK
