Some May not consider this genealogy, and some do; In Branson,Mo. Silver Dollar City has a old church inside its' gates. It is called the "Wilderness Church". Because that Church had always been a place of Calm and Warmth to me ,I was married in it. Now I heard from my mother in law that it is 170 years old and there was a song about it? Also, that it was "The " Church in "The Shepard of the Hills " real life story. Which is my all time favorite book & Movie. Can some one tell me more? Thank you, Steven
Yes my daughter and son-in-law were married there.I can't imagine a lovelier place for a wedding. We were afraid it might cost a fortune, being at Silver Dollar City, but it was very reasonable. The lady in charge of weddings at that time was named Dee,and she was wonderful.Pat Pat Ralston ----- Original Message ----- From: Steven Piper Piper <BeckyPiper1@worldnet.att.net> To: <MOMARIES-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, May 10, 2001 5:58 PM Subject: [MOMARIES] Wilderness Church > Some May not consider this genealogy, and some do; > > In Branson,Mo. Try Jonathan Ramey at jramey@cc.cumber.edu. He has lots of info on the Prewetts. He is from Clark Sampson's line I believe. James T. was my GGM's father through his first marriage to Sarah Sullivan. Jonathan should also have some other contacts. Let us know what you find. Marty Walter "Melinda K. Since April 1987 I have written a free GENEALOGY query column for the Springfiield News-Leader. They have not printed the Genealogy column in the Sunday News-Leader the last three weeks, 22 April 2001, 29 April 2001 and 6 May 2001. They have never contacted me. I told her that many of my readers do not use computers and have no intentions of having one. I told her I would appreciate it if they would continue the Genealogy column in the News-Leader newspaper. I feel very strongly about this issue. I know it helps a lot of people make contact with other relation. I have many queries on hand, people do use this column. Hi All, I'm searching for any information on my family. My grandfather Thomas Fred (note various surname spellings) & wife Velma Lee (Woods) lived in & around the Belle, Bland area for many years. I believe from the mid to late 1940's, (Fred) died Feb. 14, 1956 & is buried at Liberty Cemetery outside Belle, as is his mother Laura Ann Vandegrift (Dobbs) she died Feb. 28, 1952. My grandmother Velma died April 16, 1996 in Salem. She was a retired minister at the Assembly of God Church in either Belle or Bland. Her parents were Elmer & Pearl Woods. None of my living family remembers much or is'nt willing to talk : ( Is there anyone who knows this family? It's been said that some Dooley's lived in the area also in the early 50's, they are also related. Any information will be greatly appriciated. Thank You, Alice
Steven: My great-great grandmother was Mary McKeever. She was the daughter of Hugh McKeever and married John A. Grant. She died in 1895 and if buried in Visitation Cemetary in Vienna. You might also check the Maries County Cemetary book. I believe that most of these folks are buried in Owens and Visitation cemetaries.
