    3. I'm a little confused by all this. Was the log church SE of Kenner Cemetery, or the cemetery on the Sam and Violet Robertson property? Anybody got a section number? All this is near the town of Hayden. 3. I found the obit below on the Phelps County MO website in their obits from the Rolla HERALD. Someone had been inquiring about SEASE on this list.--Melinda --------------------------------------------------- CHARLES FREDERICK SEASE 8 Aug 1918 Charles Frederick Sease, who had been suffering from Brights disease, answered the summons of the death messenger at about noon last Tuesday, July 30, at his beautiful home in this city. Mr. Sease as practically all our readers know, was one of our best citizens-a genial, whole-souled man, who always stood out strongly for the best interests of this community, and was in the forefront of every progressive movement. His departure is the taking out of a substantial cog of the wheel of community progress-a great net loss to Dixon and vicinity. Mr. Sease was born December 28, 1867, being 50 years, 7 months and 2 days old. In compliance with his repeated request, Mr. Sease¹s body was cremated. Funeral services were conducted from the residence at three o¹clock Thursday afternoon by Rev. H. W. Bostwick. The large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends, a number of whom came from a distance, and the great profusion of beautiful flowers was mute testimony of the high esteem in which our deceased townsman was held. At the close of the service at the home the members of the Masonic Lodge, of which Mr. Sease was an honored member, took charge and conducted the burial service under the rites of Free Masonry, interment being in the Dixon cemetery. The above was taken from the Dixon Pilot of August 1, 1918. Mr. Sease was well known in Rolla, and many friends here mourn his loss. He was a brother of August Sease and Mrs. Caroline Strobach, of this city.

    1. [MOMARIES] Old Log Church in Dry Creek Township
    2. Melinda K. Elmore
    3. Friends: Yesterday I had the pleasure of speaking to Delphia Jennings Waldron at Kenner Cemetery in Dry Creek Township, Maries County MO. She and I were both placing flowers at the graves of Samuel Valentine Robertson and Sarah ³Violet² Loupe Robertson. Mrs. Waldron told me she was 84 years old. She recalled Sam and Violet Robertson telling about an old log church which used to stand on what became their property. She described it as being up the hill, not far from the graves of Thomas and Elizabeth Davis (and others) who are buried there. Mozelle Hutchison makes brief mention of this old church on page 123 of THE CEMETERIES OF MARIES COUNTY. If anyone else on this list knows anything about that old log church I would surely love to hear about it. Melinda Elmore

    3. Forwarded by the ListAdmin for: "Cliff Metcalf" <cliffmet@micron.net> For those researching the Copeland family in Maries County: I have found a lot of incorrect info on various Copeland websites corncerning the children of Solomon & Malinda Copeland. They are listed as having daughters named Milly Jane and Jane among their many children. I have some info from Massac Co. IL that clears some of this up. Milly Jane Copeland married James Hancock in Massac Co. 04/19/1849. James Hancock died of pnumonia April 1850. Milly Jane (listed as Jane) Hancock is on the 1850 Massac Co. census in the home of James and Lucy Copeland (probably her brother and his wife) with a child Martha Hancock, age 1/12 yr. Milly Jane later married Leander Doyle. He bought land in Maries county in 1858, but died before the 1860 census where Jane is shown as a widow. Milly Jane later mover to St. Claire county where she died at age 62 (about 1889), and is buried in Robinson Cemetery. I am looking for more info on Leander Doyle--time and place of death and burial, brothers, sisters, parents, etc. Glad to share anything else I have. ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! 3. I am looking for relatives of the George Shanks-Margaret (Johnson) family. Mary Ann Shanks was my great-grandmother and I would like to find cousins of her daughter Dorothy Oliver. Dorothy was the youngest of her family, she had sisters Jewel and Opal and then her brother Loyal Oliver was my grandfather. Mary Ann's siblings included Uncle Nick Shanks, Aunt Sophie, Aunt Nannie, Aunt Evie, and Uncle Virgil. If you could let me know what has happened to their children or if any are still living if I can contact them for my Aunt Dorothy. Thanks Marjie Adams

    2. I enjoyed your Copeland website. Great job! I sure wish I could find a connection with my William Grant Copeland b. 1863 in MO.......He's my grandfather and all I know for sure is that he is the son of Mary Butts b. Tn and a Copeland. I can find no early records for William. He was living in Parker Co., TX in 1880, lived from 1880-1903 in Ardmore, OK, and finally settled in Wheeler Co., TX where he raised livestock. Again.....I liked your website. Kathy

    3. Hi! I also research the Copeland family. I descend form William Copeland and Martha Taff. My great-grandparents Joseph and Belle Copeland are second cousins. They moved from Maries CO to Pulaski CO,, then on to St. Louis. I live close to Maries CO, in Phelps CO. There still are alot of Copelands around this area. A branch of them moved to St. James, in this county. There is Copeland Bus Sales, and Copeland Real Estate in St. James. I know there still are a bunch in Dixon, where my great-grandparents are buried and my grandpa was born. I grew up in St. Louis, and it's exciting to live so close to my ancestors now! I remember going to the Maries County Courthouse one time and the lady who worked there said that her grandma was a Copeland. That was neat. I'm sure half the county or better is related somehow to the Copelands. I also have finally met a couple of very close Copeland cousins in the past few years. By the way, does anyone know how James Eads, the one who built Eads Bridge in St. Louis, is related? I'm also interested in the Copeland connection with the Boone family. I think that's neat. I am looking for more info on Barton Parks and Martha Rowden. Patty My lines: Copeland, Taff, Stewart, Parks, Carnes, Lowry, Breedlove. My Copeland page with many pics is at: http://pegasus_2.tripod.com/copeland.htm

    2. I am working on Copelands from MO. My grandfather William Grant Copeland was born 1863 in MO. He later moved to Texas. I do not know where he was raised as a child. His death certificate lists his parents as Mary Butts from TN and J. Copeland. I have found a Mary J. Butts from TN who married Solomon Copeland in 1861 in Dent Co., MO and have been researching this Solomon Copeland to see if he could be J. Copeland somehow. Solomon is the son of Ranson/Ransom/Rance Copeland who was a Union officer in the Civil War in Dent Co., MO. If anyone has any info on these people, please let me know. Kathy Copeland California
