    2. Hi DeVere, You have given me the Skaggs buried in Miller Co before. Can you give the URL for Gordon Skaggs' and Peggy's web site? Is that 2 web sites or one? Melinda Elmore sent me a list of the Skaggs buried in Maries. I just opened it. She sent it Direct to me. How does the MOMARIES list director feel about personal mail being on the list? I think it is good. Every one gets to see it. The ARIZARD-L list works that way and a day never goes by that I do not find many new facts on my wife's lines who are from Izard Co., AR. Jim Skaggs

    3. Here is a message with Benjamin Eads obituary sent in the year 2000. In the directions I said to click on "Message Content" I meant "Message Body" DeVere CNIDR Isearch-cgi 1.20.06 (File: 209) --------- Forwarded message ---------- NAME: Carolyn S. Boroughf EMAIL: BenBoro@Primary.net DATE: Aug 15 2000 QRYTEXT: Copied from clipping owned by Irma (nee Eads) Bade, Union, Missouri (about 25 years ago). Ben S. Eads Dies at 89 Years Had spent Most of His Life on Farm where he was born. Benjamin Simpson Eads was born on the old Eads Farm west by South 4 1/2 miles from Vienna, in what was then Osage County on Wednesday January 23, 1850 and died in Jefferson City, on Friday, August 11, 1939 aged 89 years 6 months and 18 days. He spent his entire life until 1929 upon part of the farm acquired by his father, who came here in 1840. Since he left the farm he lived in Union with his son Landon F. Eads until they moved to Jefferson City about 1 1/2 years ago. Having a wonderful vitality he was fortunate in the matter of health during life, never being bedfast until a week before his death. Only a short time since he had the highest hopes of living to celebrate his centennial. He was the third child of Benjamin Eads (1807-1880) and Mahala Taff (1816-1876) and the only brother of Lorenzo Dow Eads (1846-1911), Mrs. Myra A. Crismon (1848-1921), Mrs. Amanda Graham (1854-1917), Mrs. Jennie Hawkings (1856-1907) and Mrs. Louisa Tackett (1859-1896). He was a half brother of the following: Frances Crismon (Mrs. James Crismon) (1825-1894) Louis Eads (1827-1902), Perry Eads (1829-1852, George W. (Wash) Eads (1831-1914), Caroline Coffey (Mrs. Campbell Coffey) (1833-1900) and William Eads (1835-1871). Few have seen more generations of people than he. At the time of his death he had a least one great, great, great grand nephew. He was brother to a great grandmother of a grandfather. With his memories of generations further back - then this man must have personally known eight generations in line. He was united in marriage to Sarah A. Meltabarger April 18, 1886. His wife preceded him in death 12 years. they had 6 children but only 4 survive: Landon of Jefferson City, Mrs. Martha Weirich of Gerald, Hoke of Vienna and Herbert of Meta. He also leaves 4 grandchildren all of Meta. "Uncle Ben" was an 'old timer' an honorable representative of those that grew up shortly before or during the Civil War Period. A man of few words, never made hasty decisions, was not puffed up. Being strong in his convictions he seriously minded his own business and expected the other fellow to do likewise. He was a philosopher of Economy something more often deserving emulation. Absolutely honest in his dealings, he had not an ear that harkened to the tongue of slander or falsehood. In a word a good citizen, neighbor and friend. He was the last of a long line of relatives, friends, and acquaintances of about the same age. Dow Eads, W.S. (Boler) Eads, James O'Brien and Henry Bodendick have been gathered to their father. Of the old neighbors there remains living but two. "Uncle" Tom Fennessey, and Henry Buschman, Although many years his junior. All the rest have sailed away to an eternal exile from the things of this life. Uncle was a patient man and loved home and quietude, fully appreciating the value of contentment. He n'er had changed nor wished to change his place. In his plain way he understood that Fame is but an echo, a dream, nay, the shadow of a dream which a breath disperses and dissolves. Although never united with a church he had a deep reverence for and an abiding faith in Him who alike giveth and taketh away and we feel sure that if the good of all ages are permitted to assemble together in the world beyond the grave - where tears, worries, heartaches and the disappointments of earth will in no wise enter, then he will be welcome into their midst. 3. JIm, I have Mozelle's Cemetery book for Maries County. It just went out of print but they're a lot of them around. I have all the listings for Miller County and other books. I don't usually do this but I will work up a list of all the Skaggs in both counties and where they're buried. The Skaggs married into my Whitakers, the Ponders, my Wests, the Humphreys and half of the Brays Mill area of Richwoods. These are all descendants of Gideon. The Skaggs are special people in my life. One of them is having another hip replacement to go with the knee replacement. She's 86 and has one of Joe Morrows books with most of the people who have died since Joe printed the book A lot of pages with a lot of notations. I just put an article on Gordon C. Skaggs on Peggy's Web site. I'll post a thing on the Skaggs burials later. 3. Thank you. That Baugh place location, if it is correct, is almost 5 miles north of Kenner Cemetery. The creek in that area is now called Fly Creek, but perhaps it used to be called Eastland Creek. The Everett location is about 1.7 miles SSE of Kenner Cemetery (0.5 miles north of Clifty Hollow Natural Bridge). 3. Does anyone know when the old log church and cemetery originated? My wife's gggrandfather Leander Doyle bought land in Sec 35 T39N R10W in May, 1858. He apparently died before 1860 as his wife Milly Jane (Copeland) Doyle is on the 1860 Maries census as a widow. We have no info on when, where, or how he died. Would that cemetery have existed in 1858? Any further info greatly appreciated Cliff Metcalf ----- Original Message ----- From: Melinda K.
