Can someone please tell me which county Ste. Genevieve is in? Did I spell that right? Wanda
Does anyone know who the wife (named Effie born 1897) is of Leslie Terry born 1897. They are both buried in the Vienna Cemetery. I cannot find a marriage for them so I am surmising they were married outside of Maries county. I would like to know Effie¹s maiden name and who her family was. Any help appreciated. Thanks very much. Melinda Elmore
Bob, Norm and I found that the old jail was closed until about September, but there were phone numbers that could be called to visit. We peeked through windows, took pictures, and imagined how it must have been for Norman's gggrandfather and ggrandfather to serve as Sheriff there. The Maries County Historical Society hours were limited on Wednesday at the courthouse. It is well worth it to go there, too. I am planning a trip to Vienna for some research, can anyone tell me when the old jail and other museums are open? Is access to records at court house still limited to 1 - 4 on Wednesdays? Thanks, Bob Berg

Dear Carol, Just saw your posting. Am interested in your mention of William F. (Buck) Caldwell. Is this correct? If Willaim F. Caldwell is the son of John M. C. Caldwell and Eliza Sewell, he is my husband's great uncle. Hope to hear from you. Claire
Dear Shari, Hope you can help me with my Sewell/Caldwell information. John M. C. Caldwell married Eliza C. Sewell on December 1, 1852 in Crawford County, MO. My records show Eliza as the daughter of William Sewell, who was the son of Pleasant Sewell. Which William was Martin Sewell's father? I show Martin and Lucretia Sullivan(t) married in Crawford County, Mo on February 5, 1843. Is this correct? I understand that John M. C. Caldwell is buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in Phelps County. Do you know where Eliza is buried? Our information on John M. C. Caldwell's origin is pretty hazy, but believe he came from Ohio. Thanks for any help you can give me. Claire

http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/archives/cherokee/1904/bios/bradshwl.html Walter L. Bradshaw W. L. BRADSHAW, the proprietor of a general merchandise store at Crestline, is a well known citizen of Cherokee County. He was born in Maries County, Missouri, December 9, 1866, and is a son of Henry C. and Nancy A. (Fritz) Bradshaw. The subject of this sketch is a grandson of Skelton Bradshaw, whose father came to this country from Scotland. Locating in New York State. Henry C. Bradshaw was born in New York State and died near Lowell, Kansas, July 28, 1895, aged 56 years. When a small boy he was taken by his parents to Illinois, near Bloomington, where he was reared to manhood. He was 18 or 19 years old when the family moved to Muscatine, Iowa, and when the Civil War broke out he was living in Missouri. He enlisted at St. Louis, in Company H, 24th Reg., Missouri Vol. Inf., and immediately saw active service. He was wounded at Tupelo, Mississippi, and for a time was confined in a hospital, afterwards rejoining his regiment. He served three years and sx months, and was mustered out at St. Louis. He then took up farming in Maries County, Missouri, and continued in that occupation until he removed to Galena, Kansas, in 1879. Here he mined one year, and then purchased a farm on which he continued until his death. During the last 12 years of his farming, he made a specialty of the raising of potatoes. He planted from 10 to 20 acres in potatoes each year, being the largest producer in the county, and disposed of them in the home market. His death was the result of an accident, brought about by his team becoming frightened and running away. He was a Republican in politics. Fraternally, he was a member of the Galena Post, G. A. R.; and of the A. O. U. W. Henry C. Bradshaw was married, in Missouri, to Nancy Fritz, a native of Pennsylvania, and a daughter of Philip Fritz. Four children were born to them, namely Walter L.; Laura, deceased wife of J. L. Phillips, of Galena; Robert A.. of Crestline; and John E. They were members of the Christian Church, of which Mr. Bradshaw was a deacon. Walter L. Bradshaw remained with his parents until he was 22 years old, working on the farm during the summer and in the mines in winter. At that age he prospected for himself, with some success, and subsequently farmed for four years. After mining again for 18 months, he went to the Cherokee Nation, Indian Territory, and was engaged in general merchandising for two and a half years. He next returned to Galena. and in 1891 purchased the general merchandise store of V. K. Hocket, at Crestline, which he has since conducted with good results. He also has a farm of 80 acres, which he has rented out. In September, 1891, Mr. Bradshaw was united in marriage with Jeanette Wentzell, a daughter of William Wentzell. of Lowell, Kansas. They had five children, three of whom are living, namely: Ira O., Ray and William H. Politically, the subject of this sketch is a Republican. He was trustee of Garden township one year, and takes an earnest interest in party affairs, although never a seeker for political honors. He is a member of Crestline Lodge No. 476, I. O. O. F.; the Rebekahs; Lodge No. 139, A, O. U. W.; and the Anti-Horse Thief Association. Mrs. Bradshaw is a member of the Christian Church. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ History of Cherokee County Kansas and its representative citizens, ed. & comp. by Nathaniel Thompson Allison, 1904, transcribed by Carolyn Ward, instructor from USD 508, Baxter Springs Middle School, Baxter Springs, Kansas, 5/5/97.

http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/announce.html#virus Virus warnings RootsWeb's mailing lists are filtered and attachments are not allowed. A virus that is distributed as an attachment will not reach you through a RootsWeb mailing list. A recent virus, and several imitations of it, may result in your receiving an e-mail (or a greeting card) with a virus attached, that appears to come from RootsWeb or from an address you are familiar with. Some virus will send a message to all the unread messages in the infected person's mailbox folders, with the virus attached. It may include the original message followed by instructions to look at the attachment. Another will use addresses found in the infected person's address book. They send messages using a forged address (for instance, using RootsWeb or the infected person in the return address). The subject line and message may indicate it is in response to a message you sent, making it even more credible. While it may appear to come from RootsWeb, that is only an illusion of the virus -- our address and the subject line is a forgery. What can you do? Protect yourself by never opening an attachment from someone you do not know, or that look suspicious. If an unexpected attachment comes from someone you do know, write to confirm they sent the attachment prior to opening it. If you have an e-mail from RootsWeb, and there is an attachment of any kind, don't open it. If you clicked on an attachment and received a message that the file was corrupted, it likely means your computer has been infected by the virus. Most importantly, use a virus protection program. Know what viruses are out there so you will recognize one when if you get it. There are sites that will help you, including those shown below. http://housecall.antivirus.com/pc_housecall/ http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/ http://www.stanford.edu/group/partners/hoaxes.shtml http://kumite.com/myths/ http://www.mcafee.com/centers/anti-virus/default2.asp http://www.europe.f-secure.com/v-descs/newapt.htm Remember, if you do not open the attachment, you substantially reduce the chances of becoming infected with a virus. Jim, I'm still trying to figure out what's going on. We believe that Jim has some sort of v*rus that is resending all the messages that he is receiving back to where they came from, i.e. the list. He's been removed from the list and put on the reject list until he can get it straightened out on his end.
