Hello List - I am currently researching the TURNER family who lived in Madison County, MO 1848-1900s. I have been unable to locate the burial site of my grt-grt-grandmother - Mary C. (Turner) WHITTENBURG who resided in Fredericktown and was found as late as the 1890 Veterans census. She is said to have died of stomach trouble at age 69, c1906 (no death certificate has been found on record). Her brother was John R. TURNER who served as Madison County Legislator in 1878-80 and is buried at Little Vine Cemetery. Hoping someone may recognize or relate to this family. Ancestor: James J. TURNER, b. Bet. 1790-1800 VA; d. bef. 1850 (prob. Madison Co., MO). He married Margaret S. (SIMSON?) and had the following children: 1. Pinkney L. TURNER, b. c1832 2. John R. TURNER, b. Jan 1833 NC; d. Dec 1914 Madison Co., MO. (m. (1) Ann SHANNON in 1856; (2) Hannah ABERNATHY in 1867). Children: Robert, James A., Thomas, Burton, Calhoun G., Mary J. (m. John R. WAUGH), Anna Virginia (m. Carl SCHWANER), Thomas P. (m. Missouri ?) 3. Susan J. TURNER, b. c1834 NC; d. unknown (m. (1) James COPELAND in 1856; (2) James B. SWANN in 1875). Children: John W. COPELAND 4. Mary C. TURNER, b. c1837 NC; d. c1906. (m. (1) Andrew A. LOWRANCE in 1855; (2) Richard FRENCH in 1867; (3) John WHITTENBURG in 1877). Children: Letha Ann LOWRANCE, Margaret Susan LOWRANCE, Amanda LOWRANCE, Luther FRENCH, Richard Edgar FRENCH, Nettie WHITTENBURG 5. Ellen R. TURNER, b. c1839; d. unknown (m. Elisha G. MINNER in 1857).
