Ted Henderso >> Ted, I was in communication with you about a year or more ago, and we could not establish connections with our Hendersons in Madison County. I continue to research my Sharp family of Madison, and to find out something about the three Hendersons who married three of the Sharp children. So far, not much luck. I do know that Robert Henderson married Esther Sharp, who died when her only daughter was young; Isabel Henderson married Robert Looney Sharp and they left many descendants in Iron and Madison Counties; and Spencer Sharp married Sarah Henderson (my line.) They ended up in Texas. These marriages took place ca 1828-1830. Have you uncovered any additional information that may pertain to one or more of these Hendersons? love joan

We are planning a trip to MO to visit cousins in Iron Co. Today I got an e-mail from them telling that they had gone to the Madison Co. Courthouse to do some research. They were told that they can only do genealogical research on Tuesdays from 1-4. What is going on??? I know there has been discussion on the list about their rudeness. Was someone pulling their leg, or is this true? I can't believe a county courthouse would limit your research time to 3 hours a week. Sandy McSpadden.
I was just in Madison County on a Friday...did lots of research in the courthouse....everyone was very helpful. I visited about 7 courthouses on this trip...Madison Co was one of my best experiences....Woodford Co, IL is another story. My grandfather was born in Fredericktown, Missouri in 1898 to George Fitch and Lottie May Moore. His name was Herbert Augustine Moore. I just found a family record that states that my grandfather Herbert Moore had a twin sister, Hilda. She died shortly after birth and is burried in Fredericktown. Is there anyone on the list that could tell me if their births or her death is recorded? I live in Texas and have difficulty getting around to investigate the records there. Or if nothing else if someone could tell me where to write or call for this info myself. Thanks for any help, Karen Moore Kerr
Dear listers, here is the information about the Farmington book, as related by Betty Warner: The name of the book is Farmington, Missouri, The First 200 Years 1798 - 1998. I know that they're for sale at the Farmington Public Library because I just purchased my copy there a couple of weeks ago. The cost is $59.00 per book. I know this seems like a lot, but it's a really beautiful hardback book with green covers and gold lettering, and it's obvious that a lot of work and research went into the project. The book consists of approximately 264 pages and is loaded with lots of history as well as wonderful old photos from the Farmington area, and also has a large family history section. If you're unable to make it to Farmington, you may be able to order one by phone and have it shipped to you. If you call the library, I'm sure they could let you know if that's an option. Their phone number is: 573-756-5779. If I can be of any further help, just let me know. B. Hi... Yes Wayne & Bollinger counties are near Iron/Shannon, etc... Iron county Mo was formed in 1857 from Dent, Madison, Reynolds, St.Francios, Washington & Wayne counties. Wayne county Mo was formed in 1818 from Cape Girardeau county Bollinger county was formed in 1851 from Cape Girardeau, Stoddard & Wayne counties. Cape Girardeau was formed in 1812 and is an original district... size has not changed since 1849.. (Note, this info from Handy book for genealogists.. and this date is either in error, which I doubt.. Handy has not had any error to my knowledge... or the area was given to Bollinger before its formal inception as a county.) So for records for Bollinger.. I would check Cape Girardeau county also for dates before 1851. Also, check the other mentioned counties.. the records may be in any one of them. If your ancestors lived nearer to a county seat for Wayne county... but the county broke into several.. then the ancestors may have continued (for a time anyhows) to do business in the nearest town.. so records (marriage especially) may be in different county. We would need to know a bit more, dates especially, to help you figure out what counties to check.
