    3. I see there are a few people out there who have a pretty good knowledge of Sheriffs, but how about Marshalls? >From obits, there were mentions that my g-grandfather and gg-grandfather served as Marshall's: Andrew RUTH, probably about the 1880's and Frank Ruth, probably in the 1930's or 40's. Frank also served as "member of the county court". Does anyone know how I can go about researching this information? Thanks, Patti

    3. I was sad to hear that Fern Wamser had passed away. At one time I had contacted her regarding Matheldred Bass Venable and his wife, Mary Ann Tidwell, and their corresponding families. I was hoping to get more information from her and then she had her stroke. Does anyone know who might have her genealogical information. I am still interested in sharing information on this family. Thanks, Debra

    3. I have a copy of the 1935-1936 Missouri Legal Directory which was the first Missouri Legal Directory published by Legal Directories Publishing Company, Inc. who has published an annual directory just about every year since. According to this 1935-1936 Directory, the Sheriff at that time was W. W. Kemp, Democrat, Fredericktown, Missouri. In fact, here is the complete Madison County Listing from the 935-36 Legal Directory: MADISON COUNTY - COUNTY SEAT, FREDERICKTOWN. POP. CO 9,418 Presiding Judge County Court - Jude Cook - Republican - Fredericktown Judge County Court, First District - H. R. Inman - Republican, Fredericktown, Route 3 Judge County Court, Second District - H. F. Moyers - Democrat - Marquand Judge Probate Court - Walter McFarland - Democrat - Fredericktown Clerk Circuit Court - J. Scott Graham - Republican - Fredericktown Clerk County Court - Frank Wray - Democrat - Fredericktown Recorder of Deeds - J. Scott Graham - Republican - Fredericktown Prosecuting Attorney - Melvin Englehart - Democrat - Fredericktown Sheriff - W. W. Kemp - Democrat - Fredericktown Collector of Revenue - Morris Greenwood - Democrat - Fredericktown Assessor - C. E. Gale - Democrat - Fredericktown Treasurer - D. M. Mouser - Democrat - Fredericktown Coroner - Dt. [Dr.] Harry Barron - Democrat - Fredericktown Public Administrator - none reported County Surveyor - C. E. Cooper - Democrat - Fredericktown Highway Engineer - non reported Superintendent of public schools - M. D. Robbins - Republican - Fredericktown State Representative - Ben Barber - Democrat - Fredericktown LIST OF ATTORNEYS: Anthony, E. D. Damron, C. P. Davis, R. H. Englehart, Melvin Henson, Thomas Staumbaugh, W. H. Terseau, D.M. There's also an advertisement for a Felix J. Parkin who apparently had an abstract company in Madison County. He is advertising the following services: Abstracts - Conveyancing - Insurance - Collections. He further claims in this advertisment to having "The Only Complete Set of Books in Madison County." In looking through some other old Legal Directories (more recent) which I have on hand, I find the following Sheriff's listed in the following dated directories: 1972...............N. F. Whitener 1975-76..........N. F. Whitener 1976-77..........N.F. Whitener 1977-78..........N.F. Whitener 1978-79..........N.F. Whitener 1980...............Verlon Young 1981...............Gary L. 3. Bobbi - - need to correct this - - Marshall Wooldridge was not "Bud" - - and was not sheriff of Madison County, MO. - - "Bud" was Harrison Benson 'H.B.' WATTS, and he was elected sheriff of St. Francois County, MO in 1924. Also - Nettie was born 1886 . . . Shirley. ----- Original Message ----- From: <BobbiLaird@aol.com> To: <MOMADISO-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, May 03, 2001 4:04 PM Subject: [MOMADISO-L] WOOLDRIDGE/LAIRD/WATTS/BRAUN > Nettie Columbia LAIRD (b. 2. I saw an e-mai that mentioned a Sheriff Wooldridge and I do not remember him. I was raised in Fredericktown and the three that stick in my memory are Shade Ward, Paul Rose, and N.F. Whitener. Does anyone have a list of the past Sheriffs and their terms? I would like to have that information. Regards, Curt Johnson

I am not sure what it does except it seems as if you submit your data and then you access data submitted by others. Except... unless you subscribe you can only view other's data one weekend a year. I copied that part: * Once a year, OneGreatFamily will have "Gold Rush" weekend. During Gold Rush, free track users will be able to receive OGF hints to extend their lines and see existing conflicts with other "family" members. Why Subscribe? OneGreatFamily has a database that is being constructed by contributing users from all over the world. It is a "living" database. You may login at lunch and find new information has been found for you that wasn't there at breakfast! Subscribers can immediately view the new information and begin to extend their lines. Free track users can only view the information during "Gold Rush" weekend. So I guess I would like to know if anyone has tried this yet and did they like it. Thanks - Emma

    1. [MOMADISO-L] MATTINGLY/JONES m. abt. 1911
    2. Erica
    3. Hi All! I'm trying to locate a marriage date for my gg-grandparents Mary Evylena MATTINGLY and Louis Calvin JONES. Mary Evylena, b. 1893, d. 1957, was the daughter of Francis Leo MATTINGLY and Mary Emaline MANNING, and Louis, b. 1875, d. abt. 1937, was the son of John J. JONES and Nancy Ann BROCK. Their first child, Paul Woodrow JONES, was born November 25, 1912, so I'm guessing they were married in late 1911, or early 1912. They resided on H Hwy near the St. Francois/Madison County line, near Knob Lick. Mary Evylena's family was from Perry County. Any help is greatly appreciated! I would like to get their marriage certificate, but I don't have an exact date. Thanks in advance! Erica Clark
