Will be traveling to Macon County, Missouri tomorrow and wondering if any locals can give us some advice on researching and staying there. Is Macon the county seat? Any places holding historical records besides the library and courthouse? Please contact me off-list. Thanks, Chris Beck thebecks@ncn.net

Hi, I'm trying to sort out some of my Macon county ancestors and relations and was wondering if anyone knew where I could find a township map for 1843, or at least sometime after Adair split off of Macon county? I'd also like to find one for about 1840 (while Adair was still part of Macon). Sometimes I think it would be nice to have a time machine and then I could go back and sort them all out in person. (Yes, this is a special 1843 Macon county census and I am your census taker....) In 1843 Macon county I would like to find out where precisely township 59-N/range 15-W is and how that correlates to where Independence and Liberty townships are on the 1840 Federal Census for Macon county. If anyone can help I'd be ever so grateful! Thanks, Chris

Littleberry purchased land in Macon county in 1840. I am related to Rice Patterson (b. 1811, d. 1877) of Howard County. Rice's grandfather was Littleberry Patterson of Virginia and he had a brother Little B (b. ~1818). The 1830 census, Howard County listed a L.B. Patterson and the 1840 census listed a B. Patterson.

Good morning All, The prodigenator of my husband's KOEHLER / KÖHLER family came to NY in about 1850. The records we have found of him say that he was born in Metz in Germanic Europe ca 1830-37. His name was Christian F. KOEHLER (as Americanized). He signed his surname as KÖHLER. Christian married Sopha NEWMANN (also b Germanic Europe) in Wolcottsville, Niagara County, NY ca 1868. We have found papers indicating his having been a soilder during our Civil War. He and Sopha later migrated to Macon County, MO where they are both buried. His stone has the dates (22 Sept 1837-3 Jan 1906) on it, but I have misgivings that the birthyear is correct. Any help in locating information about Christian's parents and/or siblings will be appreciated. We are always interested in contact with others who may be related, and we are quite willing to share what we have gathered about Christian and Sopha's descendants. Leslie (Bridges) Kohler P.O.
