So sorry, friend. Your ground is up on the highlands, isn't it? How many weeks have you been having rain there? Is the discharge "cross country" or is there more to go before the ground goes thoroughly soaked. And how do you think your crops will be for harvest? I was back there a few weeks of the 1,000 year 1993 flood. To this day it was the most awesome, most impressive, and most of all, the very saddest sight I have ever encounted. Muchm much worse than the three Gulf of Mexico hurricanes that hit us directly down in southern Texas. Down aat old West Quincy, I think those five Burlington Northern engines are still there. And the old Quincy Bridge was just starting to emerge again. In all of God's Great Green Earth...this happened in my old neighborhood. My great aunt, Mrs. Keller, of West Quincy, was never found. Do you remember that the old Quincy Bridge, while it was underwater, was the front cover picture of an issue soon after on NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC. Life in prison was not long enough for that insane fellow who was caught ditching that dike a few hundred yards north of that bridge. Wonder where God is going to place him in the HereAfter? Switching subjects: Garyl...I went to school with some Shacklefords in Ewing. Also, my grandfather, Henry J. Wenneker of Ewing, had the Ball Funeral Home contract to deliver and set up for all their funerals...and we did bury some Shacklefords. And I do believe at least one couple was buried in the Ewing Cemetery. That would have been the late 50's or early 60's. Visiting with the Ball Funeral Home and/or the Lewis County Cemetery archives will give you the answers. I have used the Lewis County Archives for many searches. They are published on-line, alphabetically. I hope this helps Garyl. Well, friend, God Bless you and all of yours. I remain, Very sincerely, "Butch" Wenneker www.VEWenneker@AOL.com PS...Garyl, when you answer, PLEASE, send me your e-mail address. Thanks.
