Hey, hate to interrupt, but I noticed that Wilma is on line and would like to ask her a question. I have found several Missouri Civil was family names that could be my ancestor. Where do I find the actual enlistment records and pensions records for Civil war vets? Looking for original records for the " 23rd Regiment, Missouri Infantry" I have the names and file numbers for the ones I want to look at. Pat Miller Dallas,TX
Pat, Records for any Civil War Veteran may be ordered through the National Archives & Records Administration. http://www.archives.gov/research_room/obtain_copies/veterans_service_records .html for information on obtaining records. Wilma
Pat et al, You can interlibrary loan the microfilm from Mid-Continent Library in Independence, MO. They should have all of the Compiled Service Records for Missouri Union Soldiers. This is considerably less expensive than the National Archives. You can get a regimental history from the National Park Services Soldier and Sailor System href> http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/index.html Brian Shay > From: Pat Miller <[email protected]> > Reply-To: [email protected] > Date: Thu, 09 Oct 2003 19:01:53 -0500 > To: [email protected] > Subject: [MOLAWREN-L] Civil War records > Resent-From: [email protected] > Resent-Date: Thu, 9 Oct 2003 18:02:57 -0600 > > Hey, hate to interrupt, but I noticed that Wilma is on line and would > like to ask her a question. Brian, Thank you for the library info. I will check with the Dallas (that's Texas) main library and see if they can get the film for me. I have located four men by nearly the same name in the National Park Services Soldier and Sailor System. They're all in the 23rd Regiment, Missouri Infantry; each man is in the same unit, came in at the same rank and left at the same rank. I wonder if all four references are the same man: Patrick Reilley, Patrick Rielly, Patrick Reilly and Patrick Riley. Three refer back to the name Reilley as an alternate. Any ideas about that?
