    3. Missouri laws regarding adoption records are retroactive. When I was researching the court records 1859-1868 I was advised by the prosecuting attorney (Robert George) to make sure that I did not include any kind of adoption record in my book and not to copy anything I might find regarding any adoption -- even from those early years. Any request for these records must be approved by a judge who decides if the records can be "unsealed". Judy

    3. I wonder if it would be possible to get everything over 100 years old formally unsealed? Or unsealing records where the adoptee, birth parents, adoptive parents have all died. - Heather On Thu, 9 Oct 2003, Judy wrote: > Missouri laws regarding adoption records are > retroactive. 3. Washington had sealed some court records regarding my husband's great grandfather...in 1895...but it only took a walk across the hall to the judge's chambers to get them unsealed. He told us that in Pacific County, it was an automatic action for anything over 100 years, one only needed to ask. But when I checked later with an attorney friend in another county of Washington, he was surprised and told me it must be very "informal" then because there is no state law in Washington that releases sealed records after any specific period of time, it is always at the judge's discretion. I wish you the best of luck in getting someone to open them for you. This file answered all kinds of questions including where he was buried. 3. Heather, This would fit into my situation about my father. Daddy died in 2001, his parents died in 1913-1914 and his adoptive parents died in the 1940s. My mother (Dad's wife) is still living and lives with us; wonder if the court would consider releasing info to her? Any lawyers out there to tell us?
